He's been doing it for years and was banned for it. Not sure what it takes now.

I think Dave is part of some sort of assistance for the retarded program here that lets him post and post and post so that he feels better about himself and builds self esteem in spite of the fact that everything he is saying is just one string of durrrrrrrr deeee derp durrrrrrrr durrrrrrrr over and over again.

In my area the gas prices have remained at $3.80 pretty steadily for the past couple of weeks. Glad it's not up to $5/gallon.

Gas prices blow in at record levels; last seen when Hurricane Katrina hit

WINDSOR, Ont. -- Gas prices jumped 10 cents Tuesday, reaching levels not seen since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

This is the second time in two weeks that gas prices have leaped 10 cents in one day.

By dinner time Tuesday in Windsor gas prices hovered at $132.9 per litre, four cents shy of record highs of 1.36 a litre seen almost six years ago.

Windsor drivers expressed frustration and anger and called on the government to intervene.

“A lot of people aren’t happy with this,” said Christine Jackson, a home health nurse who drives to see clients. Her friends gripe on Facebook about gas costs and urge boycotts of specific gas retailers.

“I’ll walk or take the bus before I drive my car,” she said as she put $20 in her tank at a Petro-Canada station on Tecumseh Road charging $132.9 a litre. “I’d rather sit at home than go out. It’s too expensive.”

Earlier this month CIBC World Markets said gas prices had risen 25 per cent since September when they were $1 per litre on average.

Tuesday’s gas price hike doesn’t seem to be a reaction to any specific event.

Gas station attendants were as confused as customers about the price hikes.

The price just “jumped out of the blue,” said one Shell employee at a station on Huron Church Road.

Another Shell employee at the Dougall Avenue station said he had no idea why prices rose except that the computer told him to increase the price.

I would like to see where prices go now with this bloated bubble and then a REAL supply crisis on hand

http://www.inflationdata.com/inflation/images/charts/Oil/Gasoline_inflation_chart.htm

Gas approaching $4 is new to a lot of this generation but in 1980 for those of us that remember it, all the b1tching and moaning now is very reminiscant.

Its why we ended up buying 1500 lb Civics, Dodge Omni Misers, Chevettes, and Rabbits and stayed off peak oil 5-10 years.

Whats amazing is that our similar high prices now are not a cause of supply disruption or embargo. Its purely speculative that prices will remain high on the idea that things could be tight if things happen.

United states already reduced its consumption far more than anyone 6 years ago could have predicted, but seems some other countries still increase use.

All i can say is perfect timing for hybrid and electric technology, hopefully this paves the way for hydrogen cells as well

My favourite current article about oil pricing and the 5 prevelant myths

1.Fighting in Libya is sending gas prices higher.
2.Tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a smart way to reduce gas prices.
3.Oil companies produce less in the spring to make gas prices increase.
4.The Obama administration is driving up gas prices.
5.Americans can’t live without cheap gas.

So are the high prices largely due to the trading of oil on the commodities market? Why not just ban commodities trading all together? How does that benefit the average American?

I'm buying into the peak oil concept but only loosely. I don't see Lord Humongous making me his play thing any time soon but it was only three years ago we had the last oil bubble and it was quite arguably part of the reason the recession was so deep (I said part)--as oil spikes have been contributing to most if not all recessions in the US within the past three or more decades.

The reason this spike will settle (I won't predict when) is that, as with any graph, it's come far away from the mean. It's gone up too fast and it will shrink down, but oil is absolutely getting more expensive over time and to some real degree the world is going to keep struggling with access to oil. It might hit $130 it might hit $150, it might drop to $80 or even $50. Who knows. I'm sure it won't be hitting $200 this year and $6 gallon oil and all that rubbish (It won't even hit $5 this year, demand will implode before that). But it is not a cheap commodity and never will be again (not including short periods after bubbles crash).

They won't do anything about the price run up and Obama is not getting my vote.

He had his chance and blew it. It went up on his watch, period.

Obama says new task force will examine gas prices

President Barack Obama said Thursday that the Justice Department will try to "root out" cases of fraud or manipulation in oil markets, even as Attorney General Eric Holder suggested a variety of legal reasons may be behind gasoline's surge to $4 a gallon.

"We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short-term gain," Obama said at a town-hall style meeting at a renewable energy plant in Reno, Nev.

The task force will focus some of its investigation on "the role of traders and speculators" in the oil-price surge, Obama said, and will include several Cabinet department officials, federal regulators and the National Association of Attorneys General.

"Based upon our work and research to date, it is evident that there are regional differences in gasoline prices, as well as differences in the statutory and other legal tools at the government's disposal," Holder said in a memo accompanying a statement announcing the task force.

"It is also clear that there are lawful reasons for increases in gas prices, given supply and demand."

The bold is bullshit

It has 110% nothing to do with supply and demand.

That was probably a smart, populist move on Obama's part even if it doesn't accomplish anything. I, too, have wondered whether some sort of antitrust-like price-fixing is going on.

Since Obama has pretty much destroyed the value of the dollar, gas prices are really like 30 cents a gallon in 1990's dollars.

$5 Gas Hits Connecticut; $6-Plus Predicted For Tri-State Very Soon

Drivers Say The Idea Of Summer Vacations Just Disappeared

With the unrest in the Middle East, some economists say $5 a gallon gas will become the norm.

It’s not like we haven’t seen $5 a gallon at the pump before — as recently as 2008. It was just something we never wanted to see again.

dmcowen's links and his interpretation of them are so much fail. It's sad to watch, though, like a spoiled toddler who just doesn't understand why he can't have every toy in the store so his only reaction is to throw himself on the ground and tantrum.
