I personally have no idea why people care about gas prices this much. Yes, paying significantly more for the same product blows. That being said, unless you are a heavy commuter or drive a Hummer, in the scheme of a monthly budget it's hard for me to see how a dollar or two increase in gas prices really changes your life that much.

It's not that I don't see the macroeconomic issues at play here, but from a personal budgeting issue I've never gotten it.

It doesn't just affect the price of gas. It affects all consumable items that are delivered by trucks or produced by gasoline combustion in some sort of a way (like food). It could also damage our nation's economy as people have less and less money to spend on goods and services. Some people would even argue that our entire economy (and way of life) is petroleum-based.

$.19 shy of $4. Some resistance has come into play, with oil not much higher than it was three weeks ago. Gas prices are about caught up with crude now.

I wonder if any more so-called pundits still want to predict $5 by memorial day.

The gas station nears my place (Valero) had a lower price yesterday, from $3.65 to $3.63 per gallon.

One of the evening Nightly News programs (ABC or NBC, I forget which) did a piece about who is benefiting from the high gas prices--who's getting our money? The oil companies and speculators. That leaves me wondering, are they engaging in some form of criminal collusion or antitrust behavior?

Who was that that wanted to takes bet that gas would not hit $5?

You lose

California first to pass $5

Drive for Five is here again

^^ Has this guy always been like this? Retarded, I mean?

Gas, by his own link, is $4.19 in California.

Anyway, my post #865, was in reference to a post about $5 in Chicago--which actually has higher prices than CA. But it's still $.75 shy of $5.

So I wonder if Dmcowen is willing to stop trolling in gas threads if gas doesn't hit $5 in Chicago by Memorial Day?

He appears to be the only person who doesn't understand what the term "average gas prices" means, so he just picks the highest, which of course is meaningless.

Yes, we know. Hang around and you'll see what he pays for pretty much everything is higher than everyone else, and higher than what is being reported by pretty much everyone. Thats Dave for ya.

Can he be banned please?
The ridiculous thing is that, as Blackangst said, dmc doesn't even read his own links. Not only does 100% of the population minus him use average gas prices instead of some price that a guy puts on his station for a joke, but in his very own link where he says California is at $5 it's not even at $5 on a single station. He exhibits all the classic symptoms of trolling.

He's been doing it for years and was banned for it. Not sure what it takes now.

Oil rises above $109 on signs of strong US demand

Oil prices rose above $109 a barrel Wednesday in Asia after a report showed U.S. gasoline supplies fell for a second week, suggesting higher fuel costs haven't yet curbed demand.

Traders have been watching closely for signs that the 29 percent jump in oil prices since mid-February will undermine demand, but strong consumption numbers from the U.S. and China suggest that it hasn't yet.

So that means they can rape everyone even more, goody for them.

Do you have the address of that station?

I'd like to call and see how they are selling gas 21 cents below cost.

I just PM you a link for the top ten lowest gas price stations. Feel free to call any of them.

Sam Club = $3.57
Chevron = $3.58
Valero = $3.59
...and so on.

Fuel prices have climbed steadily in recent months with several factors contributing to the increase. President Barack Obama on Tuesday cited market speculation as one of the reasons

Probably. Was it Enron? The big one that went bankrupt early in the 2000s. Brokers were apparently getting energy companies in California to shut down temporarily, so they could jack prices up.

OK, now I know why

Yup, costs of living are lower in the South. You can't make blanket statements about ridiculous high gas price across the board.

You and everyone should know by now. I say what I mean and I mean what I say and I always have reliable sources/links to back me up.
