Not in Europe, but here in NZ we are currently paying NZ$1.99 per litre, which according to google is USD$5.70 per gallon. I'm sure most Americans know by now that they pay A LOT less for fuel than most other countries, which explains why the US is such an excessive user of gasoline.

What do the gas taxes fund? Are non-gas taxes lower and/or do you guys get value for your tax money (such as free health care). I think I might trade having to pay $6/gallon in exchange for good socialized medicine. It would be a bargain compared to having to pay for health insurance.

Is part off the gas price problem that we have a refinery shortage?

That would be a negative.

We actually have over capacity.

40% of production facilities have been shut down actually.

You may be confused by the Republican rhetoric that Environmentalists have stopped new Refineries from being built for over 30 years.

What they fail to mention is existing facilities were upgraded and actually have since been decommissioned because so much capacity was not needed.

Operating and idle capacity...although Dave is mostly lies, there is more capacity online.

Then how come everything I post is confirmed?

Well I drive downtown Chicago once a month and have never seen the prices anywhere near what you say.

Most I have seen in the last year downtown was 3.65.

The price of WTI will be irrelevant in 2-3 years anyway. There simply isn't enough of it but right now we are in a glut because of the economy.

The only thing that is saving American drivers is the WTI contract. Gas would be 50c/gallon higher should we use any of the other benchmarks that are trading at upwards of 20% spreads to WTI.

Apparently you don't drive anywhere near North Ave and Clyburn then.

A little north of downtown but not quite uptown.

Take a picture because I do drive on North Ave or tell me what station, I will be there next Monday. I will grab your moneyshot for the thread, just tell me the station.

It either proves everything you say is BS or you are always right.

Oh yeah!!! Dave it's time to put up or shut up!!!!!

BTW the way there are quite of few refineries that are in turn-arounds to setup the equipment/processes for summer gas.

Take a picture of what? You already confirmed the prices I said.

I'll meet you at any one of the stations around North & Clyburn.

Certainly a lot closer to $4 than 3.

Hell the ID10T's on here were saying it wasn't over $3, you were probably one of them. Except for a handful of stations on the perimeter of Chicago land prices here haven't been below $3 since I arrived here back in Feb 09.

Well that $3.65 was three weeks ago. When you were saying $4 it was around $3.21

Either way what you have just done is admit on the record that you fabricated the truth (lied).

I guess that should summarize the entire thread.

It's not my thread and you are talking about a difference of 30 cents, hell the price goes up 30 cents overnight.

You are the one fabricating.

Well in honesty (what you should have been doing the whole time) gas prices are a $.30 premium to national average and maybe $.10 to downtown, however there really aren't many pumps downtown.

When everyone else quotes in absolutes maybe your world should just quote in relative. If you buy something off Ebay for 3.30 do you give the guy 4.00 and say it was close? In the grocery store do you just add a 20% premium to things and say keep the money or do you round off all the items in your cart up and that is the amount you pay? I guess if that were the case I would make a lot more money.

I will summarize it differently rather since it isn't your thread.

Dave will lie and manipulate facts at all times to make a point.

Is that better?

Most of what you post in this thread is disingenuous at best and typically simply a lie without qualification. For example your earlier talk about stations shutting in Chicago for the reason you posted and the lies about $4.85 gas.

Quite a few stations closed up in the last year. Your friend even confirmed that a few posts up. You don't live here so you have nothing to say and have no idea what you are talking about. You are the one with zero qualification.

I never claimed that. Don't put words in my mouth.

There aren't many stations downtown and haven't been as long as I can remember. Could it be the real estate costs? Gee, there aren't many filler stations in downtown London either. It must be because of the high prices of gas.

The money that stations make is more or less mandated by the state.

Oil up $5 over the week

Gas prices up another 20 cents.

Oil prices this week increased by nearly $5 from the start of the week, rising from $84.81 on Monday to $89.71 a barrel by week's end.

According to Don Redman, spokesman for AAA, escalating violence and unrest in the Middle East is causing the price hike.

"Despite continued bearish fundamental data for gasoline, including stocks hitting a 20-year high, the price at the pump has done little more than slow its steady climb of the last several months," said Redman.
