Probably to ensure no split pieces are stuck together with fibres, loose bark is removed, etc.

It looks like it also orients the pieces lengthwise, for easier loading.

Then they shrink wrap it, and sell it for $5 a bundle at the 7-11. I guess you have to pay for that machine somehow :^D

I don't think I could ever go back to hand splitting wood after having a hydraulic splitter. That thing is pretty insane though haha.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. I guess it just gets major fragments off? Seems kinda pointless, unless the split wood then goes into a packaging machine or something.

lol, I thought it was going to be the one where the guy jacked the back of his truck up, and attached a screw/wedge thing to wheel while in gear and running. I think this is actually worse though.. 😱

They call those unicorns if I recall correctly and work pretty well but if they drill you and nobody can take the truck out of gear you're pretty much screwed. 😱
