Smoking weed won't bar employment. There are methods. High school athletic programs aren't the only way to exercise and have a good time. Weed "dealers" aren't all back alley street thugs passing out free LSD. You obviously don't have a grip on reality and just buy into the ignorant government PSA's that anyone who smokes weed once will go insane and start doing every drug under the sun.

Parents' wishes are a concern since they're the parents and own the house, though.

Let's think about this for a second. I went to a Texas penetentiary for 2 years. You have been staying at your parents house posting on ATOT. And you're telling me I get my information from psa's? I'm trying to give the young man some sound advice and actually help him. I don't care what you say being exposed to drug dealers is never good. Often times they sell more than just weed and would love nothing more than to get him trying some of their other goods. I know how to spot troubled kids because I was one. So get the fuck out of your little bullshit psa trip.

I'm not enough of a fuck up to have ever been in prison. I've never been arrested. I've never been cuffed. I've never been detained by law enforcement for any reason at any time in my life. You've been to prison because you're a dumbass. I've avoided prison because I'm NOT a dumbass.

I haven't lived with my mother in ages. That wasn't even a decent attempt at an insult.

Just because you fucked up, got caught, and got raped in the shower doesn't mean your advice is any more legit than mine, bub.

I'm not even going to bother trying to explain the whole "troubled kid" thing to you because, frankly, I don't know what it's like to be a troubled kid because I'm not fucking stupid enough to have been one.

Lastly, just because you're a fucking dumbass and landed yourself in prison doesn't mean everyone else will do the same thing. Additionally, just because you hang around with scumbags doesn't mean everyone who slings weed is just like you.

That's my question. I didn't know your parents were legally allowed to "abandon" you at 16?

Regardless, I'd probably just save my time and pay the ticket.

That's what I'm curious about.

A 16 year old, with court approval, can get approval to legally be an adult and prevent being claimed as a dependent, and they can sign for themselves [emancipation]

but, parents arguing with a kid and saying they want the kid out of the house? And they get cops to come, and wait what, the cops go along with this and fine the kid for refusing to leave?
Where the hell is the kid supposed to go? As long as the parents are still also the legal guardians, as legal guardians they are required to provide for their kids.

Something is missing in this story. Something big.

I agree. It's an obnoxious way to be fined for trespassing.

However, the cops told me my parents did have the right to abandon me and no longer be my legal guardians.

A quick google search confirms this.

So you telling a 16 year old kid that doing drugs (weed)is okay is your idea of legit advice? And I'm the dumbass?

Then you have one of two things.

A. The cops are idiots and you can easily fight this

B. You're leaving a *BIG* part of this story out.

I'm guessing B.

Good move fighting the cops. I'm glad your parents have the right to kick you out on your ass. You're on your own now kid, good move alienating the only people that will normally love you come hell or high water.

It's not black and white. "Doing drugs" as a blanket statement includes sugar and caffeine. As an example, too much caffeine can kill you by heart attack.

I'm not advocating narcotics, but a little weed isn't going to do any damage, itself. It's the personality type and other habbits in life that will screw him up.

Maybe.

My wife's parents kicked out their adopted son around the same age [sounds like under similar circumstances - and in Canada too!] - spent a night in jail, etc. Eventually he smartened up and realized how much of a dumbass he was back then. Today they [parents and son] get along just fine.
