so in my town we have no crime so the loser cops sit on the side of the road all day commiting highway robbery. yesterday i got another seat belt ticket. ive had two seatbelt violations in the last couple years, i cant remember if ive gotten one in the last year. do you know whether if you get a certain number they start counting as moving violations? also if you get more than one in a certain period of time does the fine jump up? i think i paid $120 last time, thanks to a fraudulent traffic court that always finds in favor of the cops no matter what the facts are.

Like casinos and lotteries, seat belt fines are just taxes on the stupid. Want to avoid the tax? Don't be stupid!

Pretty much. Everytime I dont have my seatbelt on it just feels weird and is instantly noticeable.
Absolutely, plus, the car starts beeping after 30 seconds or so if I don't have my seat belt on.

Quit blaming everyone else and start wearing your fucking seatbelt. Either that, or just own up to it. You weren't wearing your seltbelt. Be a man and take ownership of that.

h) for a first infraction, a fine of not less than $100 and not more than $200. For second and subsequent offenses, a fine of not less than $500 and not more than $1000

Looks like you're screwed. Although, I suspect you're just trolling.

Why does it seem no one on ATOT can man up to their mistakes when getting a ticket? It's always the cop doing the wrong thing.

I've worn seat belts since the early 70's...before they became mandatory. Hell, even the old lap belts are better than NO seat belt.

I've never understood the "I forgot to put my seatbelt on" defense.

exactly. it's impulsive. i do it in asia where they don't even have the seatbelts or they're hidden somewhere where its obscure because no one uses it.... then i fumble around before realizing "oh i don't need to put one on here"

Nah, I think that's current...but your $120 probably included all the various fees they tack onto a fine.

Not wearing a seat belt also constitutes a moving violation in California. It is under Vehicle Safety (5.1.2)

actually i usually do, but when you have cops sitting on the side of the main road through town all day if you forget even a couple times its easy for this to happen

How the fuck do you forget to put on your seatbelt? That's like forgetting to tie your shoes.

Seatbelt tickets are a load of bullshit. I always wear mine, but if someone else wants to get tossed from their car and die in an accident, that's their business.

If that was the only problem, I'd agree with you, but in addition to keeping you safe in case of an accident, seat belts also keep you IN your seat in case of an accident...instead of you or a passenger getting tossed around the car. How can you control your car if you get thrown out of the driver's seat? Plus, if a passenger gets thrown around, they basically become a meat-projectile...and can cause injury to others in the car.

Also, if you suffer serious injuries, you may need extensive medical care, which costs everyone. That's how insurance works. Hospitals don't provide medical care or months of physical therapy for free. If someone breaks their neck and requires multiple surgeries and is in the hospital for weeks or months, the insurance company has to pay for that. In turn, everyone's premiums go up.

Just think, the cop is saving you money. It'd cost a hell of a lot more to scrape your face off the pavement when you get thrown from your car in that accident... and the county will bill you for that too.
