I think I'll give it a shot while KEEPING my job at Sears, like say for one day a week. That way, if I seem to be earning enough, I can quit at Sears. Or, if I'm making crap, I can quit at RadioShack and just increase my hours again at Sears.

It's really good that they're offering me as many hours as I want and that it's only one mile from my house. To make sure I at least don't make LESS than I do at Sears, I'd only have to get about $45/week in commissions.

I worked at RadioShack for a while, and selling mobile phones makes a ridiculous amount of money. I was making ~$12/hr (including slow days etc) while I was there, and well over $20/hr during holidays. Our manager was one of the best managers I've /Ever/ had, and he had some extreme financial savvy, and he was turning (guessing) $60-$80k/yr. Oh, and he got free trips to Disney World every year with his family, and two cruises to the bahamas while I was there (a little over a year and 8 months).

Of course, my manager was also an incredible man and a great salesperson -- he also knew how to game the system, promotions and highlights so as to maximize store & personal profit. We were /NOT/ the highest volume store in the city, but had the following positions held down firmly: highest profit, best percentages, least returns, best employee pay, best emloyee retention, most employee awards per quarter, etc.

All in all, though, I wouldn't trade my RadioShack experience for anything, particularly because of my manager. It let me see how retail works, gave me some great personal skills that have aided me ever since, and gave me some invaluable insight into what management styles fit me best.

edit: this was during and after my senior year of highschool, from age 17 to 18 1/2.
