My goal for a new job is $8 an hour. Got an offer at RadioShack for $5.25 an hour plus commission. He didn't give me any exact percentages, but as an example he said selling someone a wireless plan is $25 commission.

So would I be able to achieve $8 an hour or more in the end? Not sure if I should take this not. I bet I would be able to achieve that.

Yike, I don't know man.
Look like a stressful job for a job thats not suppose to be stressful.
I'd say don't take it.

I wonder how much a store manager at a little store like Radio Shack make.

No, I'm 18, but you have to factor in where you are in the country. $8/hour is good pay here. Office Max starts you at $6.25. Sears started me at $6.20. Grocery stores pay $6 or less.

DO NOT DO IT.

I worked there for 3 months before I got my internship and it was retarded.

Working at ANY other retail place (Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy) you get ~$7-8 and you don't have to TRY to sell crap to make money.

Trust me, it sucks.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terribly bad to work at if you like making minimum wage.

God damm that freakin cheap.
Even in Fla where there is no state income tax and cheaper living, you can get $6.75 at a McDonalds.

That's the thing, though, places around here DON'T pay that much. I'd be lucky to get anything about $6.50 at any other retail place.

I never made more than $7 an hour in high school, I did fine. Why do you have to belittle him because his goal is lower than your high standards?

Exactly, $8 an hour is a VERY acceptable goal for where I live.

Oh, and federal minimum wage is $5.15, so $5.25 is not far below it.

I worked at Radioshack as a stock boy when I was 16, I'm glad I didn't have to deal with the B.S. that the salesmen had to. I just stayed in the back of the store in the stock room and received shipments when they came in and put them out on the shelves in the store or the stock room while listening to the radio all day long.

Only reason I quit was to go to school for computers, glad I did too.

i came off sound like an @ss. sorry its monday. when i was in high school, i worked at safeway bagging groceries for $7.50/hr with $10/hr on sundays. i didn't think it would vary that much depending on different parts of the country. i guess it also depends on your age. min. wage around here is like $6-7.

True, most of the people that work at Radio Shack are battery salesmen and don't know an NPN transistor from a zener diode.
