Hi all. I will be receiving an ATI X800XT which will be replacing my 9800 Pro. Whats the best way to go about installing it? Should I power off, remove the 9800 pro and pop in the 800xt, or should I uninstall the drivers for the 9800 and do the swap? The Catalyst drivers already installed are the same for either card so a simple swap should work right?

Remove all traces of the first card, hardware and software, then do a registry cleaning, then shut down, swap hardware, boot, install new drivers, configure to taste.

Let's not get crazy. Just run the ATI Software Uninstall Utility as normal (from Add/Remove Proggies or any instance of aticimun.exe which is included in driver packages. It removes all ATI drivers, control panel, demo's and registry entries. Then swap cards and run the setup.

registry cleaner? Overkill.
also, the best way to destroy data is with a slegehammer. then rub your feet on carpet and touch it. DONE!
not spending money on data-wipers, super-formatters, etc etc.

Hehe. You guys slay me. I will of course Ghost my PC (as I always do), run the standard uninstall, delete the c:\ATI directory, shut down, unplug, swap card, boot, cancel any found new HW crap, install latest catalyst drivers.

I used the ATI Catalyst uninstaller, rebooted, cancelled new HW, shut down, swapped cards, booted, cancelled new HW find, installed catalyst 5.7, rebooted, let new HW find do its thing. MAN, I cant believe how great this card is! I was gonna build a whole new system (A64, PCIE mobo, the works) because I thought my system was a bit sluggish in the latest games, HL2 and such, but with this card I turned up all the settings in HL2 to the max and it runs like butter. All the benches I have done are at least twice, if not more, than my 9800 pro. Now I dont have to upgrade for a while! (I hope) :)
