got an Abstract from the court...

I have a question for anyone who works at the DMV, or just might happen to know about Abstracts. Last week I went to the Court House to clear a FTA, they gave me an Abstract so I can get my Lic's back. Only problem is my County isn't electronic yet. So they have to physically send it to the DMV and I gotta wait for it to clear. One person I spoke to there said it takes at least 2-3 weeks, another said it can be as quick as 4 days. The FTA has posted on the system, I know somebody who works at a different Court House, she says the DMV looks at the same Database they do. But, the DMV is telling me I have to wait to get the Abstract in the mail. Anyone have experince with how long this takes? The lady on the phone today told me I would get it "when it was complete" doesn't tell me much 🙂 Apparently there's no other way around this, and I can't get my car back without my lic, which I can't get without an Abstract. So lovely living in one of the only counties in California that doesn't file sh!t with the Court electronic *sigh*

an Abstract is what the Court issues you when you have a FTA (Failure To Appear) and you go to take care of a ticket. It's how idiots like me who have unpaid tickets get their Lic's back. You show up and either pay the ticket, or make payment arrangments, and they'll release the hold on your Lic's

Basically you only get an Abstract when you let a ticket go unpaid for waaaay too long. Without one you can't get an expired Lic's back.

so they don't issue a warrant? an abstract is like a warrant "lite" ? the step before they issue a warrant for you?

I had a warrent, which is due to a FTA. when you show up they clear the warrent and issue the Abstract
