I finally got most of my parts in and I'll be putting together system in next few days (maybe a week or so)
Please tell me if you see something obviously wrong with the components.
This is not gaming system.
This system will not be overclocked!

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz - will buy on or after April 22nd price drop
Memory - 4GB G.Skill DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) - for overclock system I would go for DDR2-800 but this isn't
Video Card - XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 - not a gaming sys, don't need 8800GS or GT
HD - Western Digital 250GB SRTL SATAII - $60 for this drive retail I couldn't be happier vs. my 74GB raptor's price
DVD - Samsung 18x SATA drive
PSU - Seasonic S12-430W
Case - Lian-Li A05B Black
OS - MS Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Total system cost: $1190

I was going to post a thread on the same type of subject, but perhaps it would make less clutter if I posted it here

P.S. I'm not trying to steal your thunder 🙂

You may be able to save some if you go with a lower grade CPU and still have a great build compared to you're old computer, I'll have to take a look at the mobo more closely.

What are the specs on your old computer anyway so we can compare?

I don't know if you will have a problem with the RAM based on this
"Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets."

I would probably go for the DDR2 800 RAM

It's up to DDR2-800 it will accept DDR2 -533, 667 and 800, as for revision it's 3.3 board from ClubIt

My current system:
CPU - Intel Pentium 4 @ 3Ghz Northwood 800 MHz
CPU Cooler - ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink
Motherboard - ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
Memory - 3GB Kingston PC3200 DDR 400MHz
Video card - XFX PVT43AND GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128MB DDR3 Video Card w/TV-Out & Dual DVI

Hard Drive - Western Digital 400GB SATA II
PSU - Ultra 400W ATX PS w/ 120mm LED Fan Blue
DVD-RW Drive - Pioneer 16X DVD±R DVD Burner with 2X DVD-RAM Read Black IDE Model DVR-110DBK

Why skimp on the CPU horsepower, when the Core 2 Duo price drops are just a few weeks away on April 22 and since boneca1 is NOT planning to overclock?

Expect to see the E6600 go for around 210-220 from then onward, if memory serves me well. That makes the price/performance point even more attractive.

My 2c worth as one non-OCer to another - go for the extra horsepower of the 6600 vs. the 6400 when you're already investing in a brand new build.

Don't go for the Revision 1.3 Motherboard, grab a Rev. 3.3 at ClubIT (Here). This guarentees that you get one, even though Newegg has been shipping some 3.3's.

*EDIT*

Sorry, I totally didn't see that you already had the parts.

I assume you were referring to my post, well anyway.

As I mentioned earlier I got almost all in expect CPU, I am waiting for April 22nd price drop. I also have revision 3.3 mobo which I got from ClubIT a little over month ago.

touche, I didn't even know about the prices dropping, perhaps I'll wait myself too

I would have saved a couple dollars & gone with DDR2-533 Value-RAM since no overclocking is planned & I would have looked at video card in the $75 range like a 7300GT or maybe even a 7300LE for $50 since it won't be used for gaming.. aside from that everything looks good.

after finding out prices will be dropping, I may go with a better CPU

I'd maybe go with this PSU over the Silencer with 4 x 18 amp +12v rails instead of one @ 49 amps:

SeaSonic M12 SS-600HM ATX 600 watt

And if you do wait for the price drop I'd go with an E6600 over the E6400, otherwise it looks good.

the video card mentions this- (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amps.)

That's one of the reasons I went with that PSU. But I wasn't really sure how much that mattered with a PSU with dual rails. Would 18 amps be fine?

I was looking at that same PSU, but the newegg reviews aren't that good.

I'm leaning towards thisone

That thermaltake one looks very nice. I think I'll be going with that one as well. but I'm still wondering about the minimum requirement for the video card. can it be below the 26 amps recommended because it has dual 12V rails?

The DS3 (and S3) have no problems with RAM from 533 up to 1000 and beyond (though only 800 has been officially certified as a DDR2 standard so far, IIRC. The timings aren't as bad as that, either; you can generally go down to 4-4-4 and lower depending on how good your RAM is. It'll all run at 533 regardless of what you buy unless you're overclocking it, though, so a pair of valueRAM 533 sticks with a lifetime warranty is your best bet if you're not going to be fiddling around inside it too much.

i'd go for the DS3P it has ICH8R (better sata performance) and has some crossfire abilities.
also the Video Card... wait for about a week to see the 8600
it should be better than the 7600and it supports DIRECTX10 so its good for vista and new games.

I wish I knew about this couple weeks ago when I bought my video card. I only have CPU and OS left to buy. Well maybe I can return it and get the new Video Card, or just replace it in a few months when price drops to the point what I paid for mine 7600GT $99.00 after rebate.
