Folks, I just did an upgrade on a friend's computer and have run into 2 little problems.
Here's the setup - Asus P3V4X, Celeron 633 on an Asus slocket, generic socket 370 HSF, 10GB Seagate, 3D Labs Permedia (don't laugh too hard) 8MB AGP video card, SoundBlaster 16 ISA and one 128MB stick of Kingston PC100 ValuRam and one 64MB stick of generic PC100, WinME (upgrade of Win98SE - not my choice, his!)
Problem #1, minor - While attempting to load DirectX 8.1 it stopped when it was looking for Direct components to upgrade. It didn't lock all the way, cursor was still moving but DirectX wasn't doing anything. This happened twice and I said the hell with it.
Problem #2, weird - After I finished the install of WinME I loaded Norton Utilities and ran Find and Fix and everything was just fine. I took the tower over to my friend's house and upon loading windows it detected new hardware, the monitor. If I allow it to look for the best driver it stops responding. Even if I direct it to C:\windows\inf\monitor.inf which is where it looked the first couple of times it stops responding.
I'd really hate to reformat and do a fresh install after all the time I spent on that sonuvagun!
Any ideas?
Also, I'm not getting ANY error messages or blue screens either!
