Wow, WTF. I don't even stop for less than ten over, let alone write.. :Q

A lof of places are putting pressure on their police as tickets = $$$.

Heck DC has starting enforcing old rules like you can't park in your own driveway in some cases.

Depends on where your at. Here it doesn't but a small part of the court costs goes into the pension fund though.

just go to court and plead guilty. they'll probably just give you pbj. it's not worth the points and it's a bs ticket anyway.

I live in GA, it costs me 200$+ in gas to make the round trip in the Expedition.

any way to throw in a written contestation? i know it's a PITA to show up in court, even if it's local. Maybe a written dispute could work.

Call the county clerk or traffic clerk where you got the ticket. Explain the circumstances, (you live out of state) and inquire about traffic school or some other program to keep the points off of your license.

I'm sure they won't care about the part where you were passing a semi having problems...BUT, you may be able to have a "Trial by Declaration" since you're from out of state. This might give you the opportunity to explain to the judge what the circumstances were, to explain that yes, you were exceeding the posted limit, but only to get around the semi, then back to the posted limit.
Ask for the opportunity to keep the points of of your spotless driving record...but it'd better be spotless if you claim it to be, or you'll get hammered.

Just bend over and take it. I do not think it is worth fighting it today. They are so hungry for money now that they are making it impossible to contest tickets. I fought my speeding ticket 6 months ago. Cop calimed he clocked me at 650-700 ft. Well...at this distance from his position, he would have to get a beam that could go past a crest of a hil and suddenly trurn down I had all the supporting documents and I even had the cop spot the location on my drawing. Judge just went, "Lidar can do that...especially the units we use".

What is the % margin of error on the unit?

I don't use laser, but stationary radar is typically +/- 1mph and moving radar is +/- 2mph.

in that case he can just go to court and point that out. Due to margin of error, he could have been infact going the speed limit (unless he was doing the speed limit in bad wheather). Ofcourse, any judge that lets someone get ticketed for doing 1 mile of the speed limit....man.....

He said he was stopped, not ticketed. I could technically stop for it also.

if you can avoid points it's always worth it

if not for this ticket, then the next one

you start accumulating points and it gets nasty real quick

false, states share data

i know this from personal experience . . .

talk to some Indiana traffic attorneys and hire one if you think they can help

it's worth it to keep the points off

WTF 8 mph over.

Wow, so how are we supposed to be sure never to get a ticket? Drive under the limit at all times? But no one drives under the limit, is there no escape from this police-imposed tax?

Drive under the limit. Case closed. People do it and they don't get tickets. 8mph over is a little ticky-tacky and most cops won't ticket a person for that, but the fact is that they can if they want to. You have the choice to either drive under the limit or gamble on not getting pulled over. When you gamble sometimes you lose.

People will argue that you should be doing 10 minus the limit, though I would tell them to go F themselves.

If cops can enforce the speed limit consistently, then I would better understand their argument. Some towns or cops let you slide going 5-10 over, some let you slide doing 15 over on a highway, others will crucify you doing 29 mph in a residential or school zone (as they should). There are too many conditions, and too many variables. If they're going to be hard asses on enforcing the speed limit then there should be no mercy after you went over the legal limit. It's not their job to decide if you get a speeding ticket or just a no seat belt ticket. Though to be honest, if it did ever come down to this everybody will be losing their god damn license and local mayors would be voted out of office.

So until cops enforce the legal driving limit consistent and uniformly, screw it and lets just keep bitching.

You can try. I'm not arguing everybody has to drive perfectly. I'm arguing that there is no argument about arguing.

Get it?

Are you arguing with me?

Does GA even acknowledge out of state tickets on your license? I know a lot of states only have suspension agreements for failure to pay a ticket, but the points themselves never transfer (because each state has different point rules).

He sounds like a fcking douche. All the cops I've had run ins with have been much better than that. 68 in a 60 is barely moving anyway.

I believe you have to pay the court costs whether you fight it or not.

What a scam.

How about you simply drive the posted limit?

Do you? That is just sad. I am not sure in fact I've ever met in real life somebody who truly obeys all the posted speed limits. I would simply not drive with them as a passenger on principle. I'd rather hitch hike.

you're guilty, pay the fine. +2 pts for even thinking about trying to fight it.

for 8 miles over the limit????? absolute crap

this.

It's never worth pts on your record, especially if you're <25.

thats BS!

only 1% of highway tickets are givent o those doing less 10 mph over. usually they hand out to people doing speeds like 85+ (saying speed limit is 65, which it is in my area)

needless to say, i dont usually drive over 75 unless its really empty and everyone is passing me on both sides.

edit: im searching for the link to proove my point about the 1% stuff
