stop being so righteous peeps. some speed limits are totally justified and should be strictly enforced (like school zone speed limits. people who speed near elementary schools should get the death penalty).

but face it. by and large the whole speeding ticket thing is about money. lower speed limits = higher revenue generation.

most people break the speed limit on every road. people drive based on the road and conditions not based on the speed limit. the avg speed that most people are going at should automatically be the reasonable and legal speed limit. all speed limit laws should have reasonability (or presumed speed) clauses as some states do.

those states that dont allow for speed reasonability call their speed limit an absolute speed limit. but where i come from, a law that doesnt allow for reasonability is called an unreasonable speed law.

its all about money. thats why NY for exaample has speed limits that are so incredibly low. anyone drive the palisades parkway? sheesh

go to court and usually they'll make it a lesser charge but you'll pay bigger fees because the city always want to take your money.

sometimes they jsut like to write ticket for money. ticket = money for department, city, town, etc....

If you have half a freaking brain, you'll notice that too on any road, traffic is always faster than the speed limit.

speed limit = letting cops being ass + generate money when department or town need money.

they'll set up stupid sht like random inspection check, seatbelt check, etc...

all for a "good cause" too such as safety.

I'm sure theres a huge growing number of problems with people running red light at night and they NEED to set up red light cameras. */sarcastic*

Not to rain on your parade, but 22 mph over the limit *isn't* standard - it's dangerous. 5-10 over seems to usually be reasonable.

As for the OP, I'm fairly certain you'll have to pay the fine.

To OP: looks like everything has already been said. All of them good points. Yeah it sucks to get points on your license, believe me I know, but that is why you aren't supposed to speed. The fines and points are a deterrent to breaking traffic laws in the first place. I have had my fair share of traffic infractions, but accepting responsibility of your actions is part of being an adult. It would be nice if more people would realize that instead of trying to weasel out of problems they created in the first place.
