what's up with these days and a$$hat cops

How the hell do you know the cop is an asshat? Simply based off of what some dumbass says after being pulled over?

Well given that the guy did not change lanes and the cop said he did on the ticket, I think neutralizer's assessment of the cop is fair.

Sure assuming he did not change lanes at all during the trip seeing as to how he has no idea how long the cop may have been trailing him.

Did you not read how he stated that he did not change lanes? It wasn't that hard to miss.

does that mean he stopped in the lane he was driving in, in order to pull over for the cop.. Dont you have to switch lanes to be pulled over?

I typed that wrong. I meant he stated that the cop said he changed lanes without signaling. He claims this to be untrue. Credit that to my brain shutting down after the Ethiopian buffet :)

you typed that fine.. but you are right.. he said the cop said he changed lanes without signaling.. but he himself also said that he never changed lanes.. which leads me to believe 1) he never pulled to the shoulder(lane change), and stopped directly in the lane he was already driving in when the cops signalled him... or 2) he changed lanes when the cop signalled but he forgot to signal himself.. and thats when the cop caught him.

I might also add that you fight it if you were in the right. The cop telling you not to fight it is wrong! It is your right!

This is the problem with the system.

Cops are now required to meet a quota of tickets for city, county, state etc. This makes the cop a collector for elected officials coffers. Now he/she doesn't have time to be real peace officers but instead be police officers.

Whether the cop singled out LOLyourface or not is irrelevant... LOLyourFace was speeding, and he deserved a ticket, end of story...

And I don't remember reading any law that the officer has to be nice when giving out tickets... or he has to listen to all your excuses... LOLyourFace said it himself, it was 5am, the cop was probably tired and wanted to get home... cops are still human you know...

yes, he did deserve the ticket, but the cop added an offense, "switching lanes without signaling" to it even tho LOLyourFace didn't do that.

How do you know he did or didnt do this???

Were you there in his car at 5am when this occurred or you just going to take his word at face value, hell I been with a friend driving late at night and even I have done it when there is little to no traffic on the road change lanes without
even paying attention because there was no one around to worry about running into.

You show me a single law or document issued by a local government agency or police department where "Cops are now required to meet a quote of tickets." I'll be waiting patiently.

If you didn't change lanes, how did you pull over to talk to the cop? Maybe that's what he got you for.
I realize others have said it before, but that's probably what the cop is talking about. Either that or he was tailing you for awhile - you drive a 6 right? 6es are target cars in my area, maybe it's the same thing in yours.

My brother was highway patrol in illinois for a while. The quotas are not official quotas. If you don't bring in a certain number of citations, your superiors assume you're sitting on the side of the road reading john grisham novels. If you bring in too many, the other guys get on you for raising the bar. So, everyone shoots for strictly mediocre performance. Of course, there are so many speeders that you can pretty much take your pick, you're never really hurting to meet your quota. My brother used to say, "ok i'm just going to ticket pastel colored domestic cars today."

Their word is of no greater value then anyone elses.

BZZZZ...Wrong! Who's word has more value. The cop who says he saw somebody committing a crime, or the criminal who says he wasn't? Who are you going to believe?

BZZZZ! Try again dumbass!

My brother in law is a paid firefighter and is very close friends with many police officers in my city. They tell him things, he tells me things. I'll believe him over you guys any day.

This sounds like your typical trumped up BS charge from a local (?) cop. I can't stand cops, and don't have much respect for them because of this. Especially local township cops, who get a high school diploma, go to the Academy for 6 weeks over the summer, and are handed a gun and a badge. It's fcking BS, at least State Troopers are required to get their bachelor's (in NJ, MD, and many other NE states of the US). Sht, let ME go to the Academy for 6 weeks in a summer and give ME a gun and a badge, guaranteed I'm more educated and more qualified than some 19 yr old, uneducated punk out of high school. </RANT>

I thought it was going to be whole lot more.. but he broke it down for me.. $60 fine and $1 for every mile over the speedlimit..

Where was this? I got a ticket for like 24 over in Illinois, but it was only like 90 bucks. I got a ticket for 15 over in Pennsylvania that ended up being $160 because of a bunch of extra fees and whatnot.

take notes on time of day, weather conditions, road condition, so you can use that in court against his memory of the incident

I've been pulled over more times than I care to admit yet my license is as clean as a whistle. Here's what I do...draw your own conclusions.

1. As soon as I see the red and blues I immediately put on my right turn signal and pull over at the first available spot...as far right as possible as to give the officer the most room between my car and the road. They seem to appreciate this.

2. Before the officer comes up to the window I make sure to have my license, registration and insurance info sitting on my lap and my hands are on the wheel where he can see them.

3. I greet the officer with a pleasant hello sir, how are you doing and a smile.

4. When he asks for the info I say that I have it right here on my lap and hand it to him.

5. I say NOTHING else unless he asks. Usually they say, OK I'll be right back or in some cases they may ask do you know why I pulled you over. If they ask, I'll tell them exactly why I was pulled over and apologize.

6. I wait again with my hands on the wheel.

7. If he comes back with a warning I thank him and I'm on my way.

8. If he comes back with a ticket, I sign it and I'm on my way. No arguing, no trying to explain my case, nothing.

If I got a ticket, then I'll send it in not guilty and take my chances in court. I've been in court a few times and never had trouble getting the points or the whole thing thrown out. One time, the judge lined about 6 of us up in front of him and said...OK...now we play who wants to make a deal and proceeded to throw everyone's points out. Another time I needed a lawyer for something really stupid I did but again he got the whole thing thrown out no problem but it cost me.

I've settled down a lot since my younger days and now my only real threat at being pulled over is for going 10 or 15 about the limit on the turnpike. I cruise with the flow of faster moving traffic and typically do 80 in a 65 and 70 in a 55. I have a good radar detector and keep an eye out for people braking in front of me. Works for me.

Good advice. Sometimes if the officer comes up very quickly before you can get your paperwork, put your hands on the wheel, and ask him permission to open the glove box and get the papers out. Also, if it's night, turn on the light inside your car to show him you have nothing to hide. Make sure your seatbelt is on as well. Use, Sir, or Officer, when addressing him, and I wouldn't recommend smiling but act serious/worried, mainly that you give a sht even if you don't. If you're smiling, the officer might think that you're not taking him seriously and think something's funny. Out of the last 4 times I've been pulled over, I've gotten 4 warnings: 3 for speeding (10-15 over) and 1 for running a red light (barely). Just act professional, show respect, and show that you're sorry. They get off on that sht (power trip I presume).

EDIT: Also, if you can get a police support sticker for your state, that is highly advised (FOP). Also, if you know anyone in the military or firefighters, try and put these on your car as well. I had bought a used car in college that had a Marines sticker on it, and I got pulled over for not wearing my seatbelt... trooper saw it and asked if I was in the Marines, I said no, but my brother is. He gave me a warning.
