Got a question for the guitar players...

Yeah, pick sliding. It should be easy as it's just, as the name suggests, sliding the pick down teh strings. But when I do it, I can never get a smooth decending or ascending picth, and I sometimes get some tone resonance which rings clearly when I'm done. What is your technique when pick sliding? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

i don't do it too often, but it might have to do with the guage of your strings. Make sure you're using extra lights (unwound G string). Not sure what else to tell you...maybe it's your effects setup? Cut down on the gain a bit maybe.

I'm using pretty heavy strings (11-53). But the GBE strings are unwound. It's weird. I will try that.

 

You should slide down the neck on the low E and A string or just the E. You have to apply some pressure. If your picks don't have notches in them, you're doing it wrong.

I do it all the time. In punk rock pick scrapes are more important than soloing.

Yeah the dude up there ^^ said it best.

Only slide on the low E & A 'cause they're grooved better. Your pick should have notches/cutouts if you're doing it right. Also, your gain hasta be up or it won't even come through the amp. It's esentially about how much distortion/volume you've got goin' on at the time of the slide.

If you can't get it to sound good, just add more distortion... that way, at least the idiot punk kids will like it without knowing you sound like crap...

I play slide guitar fairly well...I can give pointers on that

yes, your strings will ring after you scrape. that's why you mute them with your other hand. in fact, mute them WHILE you scrape. also, scrape with some conviction, and do it quickly.
