Got A Problem

Im not sure whats wrong with my system but i cant stay play it for a few minutes. I just checked my BIOS and something is definately wrong. My CPU is reading 62C!!!!!!! I dont know why... 2500+ @ 2700+. Its using the stock cooling and i have 4 3000RPM case fans in a chieftec dragon case. Why is everything so hot. Besides the fact that it is summer now. My system temperature is 27.4C.
What happens is when i start running ANYTHING i guess the processor overheats because a blue screen flashes (stop error) so fast i cant read it then it restarts. I am using thermal compound. 62C is insane!!! Also im running a (lol) Geforce 2 Ti right now and in a couple of days my 5900XT should be coming. Wont that chip run much hotter than the Geforce 2? I dont know what to do then. My fans are configured front fans sucking air in back blowing it out. Using A7N8X-E Deluxe M/B

What Heat sink are you using? Check it to make sure it isn't on backwards, if it is then it is only touching part of the core and could be what is giving you problems.

Im using the stock HSF. Ill double check if it is on right or not but im almost positive it is.

I have a friend who uses the Barton 2500+ on a Gigabyte mobo with a retail box HSF. His case has no fan (lol~) except the dual fan psu.

Two months ago, his cpu temp. was a little bit above 60C, as measured in the BIOS. He said it's ok for him as long as the cpu could last for a year or so.

Recently, his cpu got as high as 80C (LOL) when he plays Final Fantasy Online. He was worried. I helped him replacing his retail box heatsink with a Vantec VT-VA4-C7040 HSF and added a case fan at the back of his case. After that, the cpu temp dropped down to around 50C and he was happy again.

I don't know exactly what caused his cpu to be that hot, but I would suggest you to go replace your heatsink with a better one. The stock HSF isn't really adequate.

also, make sure you have some type of thermal paste on the cpu core.

Yeah, something's going on...the retail barton HSFs aught to be able to keep the things perfectly cool, under 50C load (27C case temp is about ideal--how well is it exhausting air?).

I dont know why but im not using A/C right now at home so ambient room temperature is no longer 69-70 its like 80 (all Farenheit) I Cleaned up the HSF. Also when i took it off i obviously put too much cooling solution on it because it was all over the bridges it looked like it exploded lol. So i got a Q-tip and cleaned that up too. Now i finally got the OC to 3000+ to work and after i cleaned it it is 60C. So a big difference. Also any recommendations for HSF. Im thinking a thermalright or some high performance HS but which fan should i put on top? I want something quiet yet pretty fast 3000RPM. Also what size of a fan should i be looking at? 80mm Right?

If you haven't checked this yet, go into the motherboard's BIOS and make sure Q-Fan is disabled. Q-Fan's function is to run the CPU fan somewhat slower (and therefore Quieter) at the expense of some of the cooling capability. It's intended to start stepping the fan speed back up if the CPU temperature (estimated by the socket's air temperature) gets above a certain level.

The stock retail 2500+ heatsink isn't the most impressive thing to look at, but it's enough to cool a 2500+ provided that it's installed correctly with good thermal grease or its one-use phase-change thermal pad, and provided that the case temperature is under control (which yours is).

Yes, 80x80x25mm or 80x80x38mm, not 80x80x15mm.
Look into a Aerocool X-Flow or Panaflo M.

Throw on a ThermalRight SLK800 or 900 on there, and it'll be under 50 degrees c in no time.
