Its not about image at all. Purely the numbers, 60mpg vs 15 mpg. That's it.

I kind of agree here, there is very little point in daily driving (hardware store, in city, around town errands) anything that's going to suck down gas or be very pricey if its your only car.

For my parents, something like this is almost perfect. They already have a very nice SUV for whenever they want, and can get something like this for when my mom wants to go to the asian market, nursery for soil or plants, or to the gym and back. It will hardly use any gas and she could care less about it, its more/less disposable.

Toyota makes bland A to B boxes, but...they're darn good at it. At least give them that credit.

Been working on that for a while for the Insight. It's a back burner project though. Now that we have fuel injector pulse width, MAP, etc from the OBDII port, it should be possible. 😀

Can I work with you on it? I have "extensive" OBD-II experience from a previous project interfacing to an ELM327 with a pic18f.
The parts I'm unclear on are packaging, enclosure manufacturing, how to get a mounting mechanism, etc.
Also, I haven't looked up the laws on active display devices in vehicles.

It wouldn't be terribly accurate as efficiency varies with RPM, but it wouldn't really need to be. Just good enough to give all those honkers something to think about as they pass you, and something to let the Prius owners feel just a bit more smug about driving a Prius....
