I got a new razer copperhead because of recommendations and good reviews from gamers but I find it smaller and less comfortable than the MX1000 I moved from. I wanted a wired mouse and Copperheads came with the best reviews. But now I think I should get one of Logitech as they fit right in my hand. What would be a good mouse, the MX518 or the G5 Laser to replace the Copperhead? It will soon be up on the FS/t Forums :p

Give the Copperhead a week or so - that's how long it took me to get used to it after my MX510. The Logitech really made me lazy with my control over the mouse. Also, do not neglect to take some time to work your way through setting up the drivers and mouse settings to get it to where you like it - it really should be night and day better than the MX1000 - you just have to acclimate to the new feel.

After giving it time, if you've been thoroughly corrupted by Logitech's design ;), I'd say go with the G5 unless you're used to the two side buttons. The MX518 is a wonderful mouse as well, and considering you can manually force increased USB polling, the G5 doesn't hold too much advantage over the 518.

Personally I like the MX510, mine just broke and logitech is replacing it for free with a 518.

But I do Force the 500hz polling rate, and I believe 1600 DPI is more than enough, even the 800. If you think about it. 5.8megapixel engine is beyond any monitor's resolution anyhow, so u likely get at least 2 to 1 pixel. when you think about it that way, a laser engine does nothing that you can really notice.

Although,, if u stumbled upon the Silver/black color scheme of ALLL ur comp stuff by mistake, like i have,, I swear it was not premeditated, it just happend that all my stuff is Two tone silver/black.. the MX518 would complete my set. LOL TOTAL couincidence.

I am so glad that I tried the feel of the Copperhead at the local Best Buy before ordering one online. Never have I held a mouse that was so uncomfortable in my life. And the fact that I am right handed means that buying an ambi mouse would not benefit me in any way.

I picked up a G5 for ZZF and never looked back. I really don't feel like acclimitating to an entirely different design, which would have been the case with the Razer. It's not like using the a G5 will put anyone at a disadvantage or anything. For me, a good mouse is one that feels "right" as soon as I touch it; not one that I must get used to. Hell, if I used a mouse shaped like a beer can long enough; I am sure that I would have gotten used to it as some point as well...

thats what I felt after using it last night. The MX1000 used to give me a solid feel, like I was holding something, the copperhead felt like it was trying to run away from me. it just didnt fit right. ANd the ambidextrous design makes the bottom buttons not as reachable as the mx1000. I will give it a few more days, I love the green light. Also where is the 2000 DPI likely to be used, I played Prey and 2000 was way too sensitive, I am using 1600 dpi and 500 HZ right now. For some reason, it resets to 500 even if I try 1000(???)

Set it to 2000dpi and decrease the mouse sensitivity in game and/or OS. The high dpi gives you greater accuracy with your movements; the sensitivity control determines how far/fast the cursor goes related to how far you move the mouse itself.

I have my Copperhead set to 2000dpi w/ 1000Hz polling and pretty much leave it there - adjusting sensitivity in game to what I see fit. If I want a more or less responsive cursor, I always have my ?on the fly sensitivity? setup and normally run somewhere about 4 to 5 (out of 10)

As for the polling rate, make sure your drivers are up-to-date and reboot after you change the setting (make sure you click "apply")

control panel (classic) -> Mouse -> Pointer Options -> Select a pointer speed: I have mine right in the middle (which I believe is the default).

Then I've changed my sensitivity in the Razer driver control, having it around 4 to 5 (again, out of 10).

Then you have your in game mouse sensitivity control. Some games I'll have at 18%, others are perfect right in the middle at 50%, some might need cranking up...once I find a good home base in game, I can always use the Copperhead's on the fly feature to bump it up or down if I want a temporary change - although you've got to make sure you've set up your buttons to do so.

Doesn't do it justice, I would have been turned off by Razer if could only play with it for a few minutes. After a week of getting used to it, I absolutely love it and am glad I was broken away from my lazy Logitech ways.
