Then you get another one someday, when you are ready. The love, attention, affection they give far outweighs for me, the prospect of something bad happening to them. Something could happen to us, the what if's aren't worth the worry, in my book.

kewl, but read up on puppy training and socialization quick! their mental development stages are highly compressed..months . your window is short. train it good early and it makes life much easier later on when its harder to break habits/behaviors.

Congrats :)
If you want them to stop chewing things like skirting boards, spray the item with some apple spray that you can get from most pet stores. Labradors of all varieties (and indeed most dogs) don't like the taste. Our black Lab went through a skirting board before we found this stuff, and she stopped immediately afterwards.
One more thing; if you leave the pup in a certain area each night and it starts crying/whining at unusual hours, do not go down to see it. It's hard to do, but leave it to cry. It'll save you immense amounts of hassle in the future, because it'll learn that it's not going to get any attention by crying. If you do go down to see it when it cries, it immediately learns that crying = attention. Good luck :)
