I recently purchased the Sharp 37" LCD from Costco. I like it so far and will be picking up an up-convert dvd player soon. But one thing I noticed is that after watching the tv for awhile, it makes noises as if its contracting. Like it heats up and expands while I'm watching tv, then when I turn it off it contracts as it cools down. I dont really mind it but I like to watch tv before I go to bed, and it kept me up last night so I couldn't get to sleep.

Is this normal for a LCD tv to do this?

I really think your unit might be bad. There are fans and maybe this was a returned\open box unit from them. There should not be any expansion when a unit is brand new....

I don't know if that is what is happening but it sound like it. Could it be anything else? I don't hear any fans running at all even while I am watching tv.

Now that I think about it, I think my TV is doing the same thing (32" Sceptre from Costco).

After turning the TV off, it'll make strange, random, clicking noises...a couple pops every now and then. Is this problem similar to the one you're experiencing?

Is your issue similar to this one?

The problem is more similar to the one you described, not the one in the link.

I haven't heard any pops and random noises from my TV. Some on AVSForum with the same TV have noted random noises however. If it is that annoying, try replacing it with another one? You did get it at Costco and they have a pretty good return policy.

My 37" Westinghouse can get pretty warm for an LCD, but I've never heard any noises from it before. Mine does NOT have any fans either

Further down the page, people start talking about the clicking noises that occur after the TV is turned off.

Some people suggested that the cable box was to blame. Others suggested unplugging/plugging the TV back in. Most likely, it is indeed a heating/cooling issue. For the record, my TV doesn't have a fan in it, and it does get quite hot at times. Then again, the air circulation in my room is pretty poor.
