Because Micro$oft of course knows all, and has decided in its infinite wisdom that having a pin is important to you!

I really like their logic concerning pins where they'll even let you use a pin that contains letters. It looks like a password, quacks like a password, but according to Microsoft it is a pin and not a password. Microsoft logic in action .... :dizzy:

Were you able to disable the pin signin and return back to password authentication?

As for why, if you are logging in with a MS account, it is more secure for the MS account to use a PIN instead of the password (protection against keyloggers or physical snooping). If you are using a local account then it is a redundant step. AFAICT, they make most of their design decisions around the idea of logging in with an online account.
