Got a new laptop. Windows 10 REQUIRED me to set up a pin.

There was no option to skip.
Anyone know why they insist on this?

Because Micro$oft of course knows all, and has decided in its infinite wisdom that having a pin is important to you!

I really like their logic concerning pins where they'll even let you use a pin that contains letters. It looks like a password, quacks like a password, but according to Microsoft it is a pin and not a password. Microsoft logic in action ....

Were you able to disable the pin signin and return back to password authentication?

To skip the PIN creation in the latest Windows 10 install:

1. Click "Set a PIN"
2. Press back/Escape.
3. The system will ask you if you wanted to cancel the PIN creation process. Say yes and click "Do This Later".

As for why, if you are logging in with a MS account, it is more secure for the MS account to use a PIN instead of the password (protection against keyloggers or physical snooping). If you are using a local account then it is a redundant step. AFAICT, they make most of their design decisions around the idea of logging in with an online account.
