Got a new humidifier. What humidity to set it for?

Got a new humidifier today, but it doesn't give any recommended settings for humidity.

I had set it for 60% but it still seems a tad dry in here. Now it's working toward 65%.

Any preferences?

Set it to Cancun. :) Only reason I say Cancun is because we went there on a senior trip right after HS. DAYAM was it humid.

Hmmm... No Cancun setting on this thing. Should I take it back? ;)

I thought humidifiers were for when it isn't humid enough in the winter time. Himidity can get down below 20% in the winter and to make you feel comfortable and not have nose bleeds you should get humidity up to 30-45%. Anything over that and you can cause structural damage to your house(in the winter).

I like it around 40-50%. To make sure it's working properly get a hydrometer (humidity meter) the cheap ones (w/metal coil) don't cost very much.

I think Squisher is right; at least, that's what the heating guy told me when he put one in.

can someone explain why you would want to add humidity (besides the heating issues)?
