Got a new higher paying job, Skyrim Qs

Ok, so I start my new much higher paying job in a couple of days which means I can now afford to buy a game or 10. So, I want to get Skyrim. What I need to know is:

1. PC or 360? I know the diehard PC gamers will say PC but look at the PC in my sig, I dont know if it can handle Skyrim the way it should be played and I dont feel like dropping a few hundred bucks to build a system to play it properly.

2. Those who do have the 360 version, how does it compare to the PC version? TBH, I am leaning towards the 360 as my couch is a much more comfortable gaming area than my PC.

3. Excluding the obvious PC benefits (online community, DLC, mods etc) Are the games exactly alike?

I'm currently playing Skyrim on the 360, mainly because it was given to me by a friend.
It plays well on the 360, although it has a lot of load screens that are just a touch longer then I would like, and a really annoying habit of just freezing for a few seconds when it does the autosave, this is most apparent when you enter a menu and it just seems to hang for a few seconds. I have a 55 inch plasma and it looks good, I'm sure it would look better on the PC, but I can't really complain.

Overall, if you think that Skyrim is the sort of game you might want to play long term, then I think the modding community is essential, and that means getting it for the PC. But if you are going to play it though once, mostly sticking to the main quest line, and then move on to a new game, I would stick to the 360 version.

The game is the exact same on all platforms, so the online community will be the same. DLC will not be exclusive either, so there goes that. Mods are really the only thing where you need to ask yourself if it's something you'll be able to go without. For me personally, I don't care about mods. Keeping up with them and weeding out the crap is too much of a time sink. Plus, I can only play a game for so long before mods don't really do much for me any longer.

I can't really recommend a version for you, but I like the 360 because I, too, like my couch and big-screen more than a computer chair and monitor. Plus, IMO, this isn't a game that needs the precision of a mouse, so a controller is more comfortable.
 
Get Dark Souls, Skyrim is a complete bore once you see through the pretty landscapes. Repetitive missions, bad story and acting, bad mechanics, etc.
 
I'm leaning towards xbox myself. go ahead and read the PC thread. 90% of the threads deal with getting the game to run properly with all the mods. seems like too much of a headache. add in the comfort of your couch and a 55" big screen and I would go with Xbox.
 
build a new pc, it won't cost that much. i had a similar setup and just built a new box in october. you can re-use your vid card (i still use a 5770), powersupply, storage, and case. pick up a 2500k, mobo, ram, and maybe a SSD and you're set. after selling my old parts my new build only cost me about $300.
 
The 360 version looks great. In fact, my friend has an uber gaming computer and while the 360 version lacks some of the same rain effects and reflection in water effects, it is still really fucking good.

That said, I would buy the PC version no questions asked. The mod community is HUGE for Elder Scrolls games.
 
I had the PS3 version, and enjoyed playing it on a large screen.

But the mods on the PC version were too awesome to pass up. The difference in quality between the PS3 version and the PC version maxed out and running high-resolution textures is night-and-day. There are also mods that affect gameplay; some do a great job to address shortcomings by Bethesda.
