Got a new GPU, some newb questions

This is the GPU on order. MSI 1060.

I looked for the drivers however and found two links for my operating system. (Windows 7-64)

Which one should I download? One says "NVIDIA Graphics Drivers" and the other says "NVIDIA VGA Driver 368.81". And should I uninstall my 7770 drivers, install the 1060 drivers then shut down the PC to install the new 1060 card? Or should I wait until the card is in to install the new 1060 drivers?



Second, I have an i5 2500 sandy and H77M Motherboard that has two PCI Express slots.
1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (PCIE1: x16 mode)
1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE2: x4 mode)

The thing is, the integrated audio never worked on this motherboard. I get audio from the hdmi through my video card. I have a pci slot sound card I'd like to use, but it obstructs air flow if I use it with a video card in the 3.0 slot closer to the center of the motherboard. If I put the 1060 in the 2.0 slot which is below the PCI slots and installed a sound card what kind of performance loss would result?

why didn't you rma the mobo if the audio didn't work from the start

I did not know it back in 2012 until it was all put together and assembled and by that point it was the only PC in the house so if I had done a RMA I would have been without a machine for a month. They were hard times financially back then.

You should wait to install the drivers after you install the card. As always, removal of the previous drivers before installation is a good idea.

You shouldn't have any issues doing this, but if you run into any driver related issues you may need to uninstall, run DDU, then go through the driver install process again.

Assuming your PCIe 2.0 slot is running at the full 16x, you won't notice any performance loss.

It says x4 mode.

Just install it in the fast slot and use the sound card.

The 1060 only uses 120W, subpar airflow shouldn't be a problem as long as the cards don't touch eachother.

That's the catch. They do touch.

The pci express 16 slot is near the middle of the board, then the two pci slots, then the pci express x4 slot at the end. If I put the 1060 in the faster slot that's near the middle it overlaps the first PCI slot entirely and contacts anything put in the second pci slot. If the 1060 could go in the slower pci express slot near the edge of the board however it wouldn't be an issue, but I don't know how much performance could be compromised. Hence the quandary.

Nvidia cards won't operate at PCIe x4, so that is not even an option. If you haven't bought a sound card, look for one that uses PCIe and put it in the last x4 slot.
