Little background first...

Ever since driving an S2000 for the first time, I have absolutely drooled at the thought of owning one.

About 2 years ago I wanted to buy a sports car, but for financial reasons I had to get something cheaper than the S2000. I ended up getting a Miata (in sig). I was happy at first, but the more I drove it, the more I realized it wasn't what I wanted. The car was soft, worn out, and would need lots of reconditioning to perform dynamically like I wanted it to. That's what happens when you compromise. The time has come where I am able to afford the S2000 and so I started my search a few months ago.

A few days ago, I found a nice example from an older gentleman and his wife and decided to buy it. The transaction went smooth as butter and I drove the car home. What an exhilarating experience. Needless to say, I have put about 300 miles on it in the few days that I have had it... All smiles and LOTS of vtec :) (25mpg too!)

The way the transmission and engine communicate in this car is a rare thing. No wonder car and driver called it the best transmission under $100k. The throws are telepathic and direct. The engine loves the higher revs and is a joy to drive. People who complain about the low end torque of the S2000 either drive a diesel for a living or are just regurgitating blabber. Granted at 2000rpm it falls flat on its face, but that's why it has 6 gears. The powerband is quite narrow, but the close ratio gearbox allows for the optimal gear selection in any situation.

I don't see myself giving this car up for a LONG time.

Cliffs:

Wanted S2000 first
Settled for miata
Finally got S2000
Happiness ensues

Yeah I meant to find a word like envy. Confused words...

Vtec is about 6k and the fun ends at 8.3k. I am thinking of getting a flash down the line that would change the hot cam engagement point to 5k and raise redline to 8.6k.

Look up the word "loathed" in the dictionary and I think you'll be in for a surprise. I had to laugh when I saw you use it in that context since it was obviously the exact opposite of what you meant to say.

Other than semantics, I know exactly how you feel. I test-drove an AP1 and an AP2 in the same day and haven't been able to shake the experience since. They were as much fun as a recent-gen 911 cabrio that I got to wring out one afternoon. That first run to 70 MPH from a standstill on the freeway onramp gave me goosebumps. The S2K is far from the fastest car in the world, but the sound and the multiple kicks in the pants as the cams switch over in the mad rush to redline make it a blast. I plan to own one, but feel I need to wring some more value out of my Accord before I buy another car.

Congrats on the S2000. I know you wanted that car for a long time. Plenty of cars might be faster now but the S2000 probably has the best gearbox and is just plain fun car to drive. I love the looks and lines on that car. Interior is simple and beautiful. It's a great looking car and probably will be a classic one day. Looks like you got the AP2. Nothing like open top driving by the ocean. Enjoy!

Thanks.

Yeah I got the AP2. After driving both generations, I decided that the AP2 is the right car for me. I like the 9000 rpm redline of the AP1, but that's about it. Plus I couldn't let this one pass by me.

someday I may get the s2k...not exactly a high car on my list, but it looks fun...I would like to at least test drive one to see what all the commotion is about.

The only honda that I'd buy.
It looks cool but really I hate all that pimpy redness inside. I mean a red carpet? C'mon.

Yep, hard to resist with so many sweet deals out there.

My first honda was a CRX and with a B16 (DOHC VTEC) swap it was a blast. I really miss it and have considered an S2000 for years now.

Problem is a 2005 Evo VIII fell into my lap at a price I couldn't pass up and from all I've read, the Evo to S2000 transistion is a disppointing one. If and when I can have both I might just go for it.

I currently also own a 1996 Miata and I know what you mean by worn out lol.
