Got a Miata :-)

I bought the Miata I mentioned in this thread. It's a 1999 in Twilight Blue. The seller let me peel up on the vinyl with the condition that if the paint was good/not faded, I'd just buy the car and if it wasn't, we'd split the cost on a respray. Also, he offered to help with removal, buffing, polishing, etc. Really nice guy - he's an active member of the local Miata club.

This is my first car purchase, first car with a manual transmission, and first sports car. I've only had it for one day, but so far, I just love the thing! It's so much fun. There's no way in hell that I could stomach driving it every day, so I'm keeping my 2000 Honda Accord. The Miata is my "got into grad school with a full ride and then some" present to myself. I figured I made a few good decisions, I can afford one bad one, right? 😉

Seems like everything is in great shape. All preventative maintenance has been done: timing belt, wires, spark plugs, water pump, shocks/suspension, and more. The tires are practically new and the oil was just done about 100 miles ago. The only issues with the car are cosmetic and they're really no big deal. A little dent or scratch here and there, but nothing major and there's really only a few. The driver's side sun visor droops down a bit and the pedal covers need to be replaced soon - these are the only two things that bother me. Not a big deal; they're easy and cheap to fix.

As far as aftermarket mods go, it has a custom intake (clean, nothing crazy), 2001 Miata header, adjustable shocks, and a Hard Dog roll bar. The original seats were replaced with the blue and black leather 10th Anniversary Edition seats and the center console is from a 2001.

No pics yet - we haven't finished removing the stripes. It'll probably be done on Wednesday. Pics up when it's done 😀

Schweeet looking ride. Twilight blue 12K is my fav color for the miata. I used to have one before I wrecked it 🙁

Glad you got the stripes thing worked out.

So how much was it?

$5000. About average as far as "book value" goes, but since the maintenance is flawless, I think it's a pretty good deal. It really is a "needs nothing" car.

Why? Just because of the manual transmission?

The size, mainly. Not much you can fit in a gokart. I can't fit my drum set in there, for instance. So when I have a gig, I'm driving the Honda. Even better - what if I get REALLY LUCKY and I need to drive around two hot chicks? 😉

I'd say that's a good deal for a good condition miata with all of the aftermarket parts. The seats and the roll bar alone is a good $1000

lol I've done this with my miata once. Took my gf and her friend. They just squeezed together in the passenger seat and one of them covered her face with a jacket. You'd be more likely to get two chicks into you driving the miata too. 😉

I recognize that Miata. I saw it at a few autocrosses in the area. Good maintenance is key to any car. Enjoy your new car!

Nice snag! It did look really nice in the pics from your other thread.

So, when are you going to auto-x it? :awe:

Why did she cover her face with a jacket? Embarassed to be seen with you? 😀

OP, your Miata makes me want to get an NB... The proportions are so much better than the frumpy NA.

Congrats on the purchase. Nice looking car and I hope you enjoy it. I couldn't help but notice but notice what looks like a cig burn on the drivers seat ... smokers car?

Enjoy!

I have a 1992 NA and it still puts a smile on my face like no other car: it's the fun, the simplicity, the reliability, and knowing you didn't spend your retirement to buy one.

$5k is a pretty good deal on a 99. Book value on miatas doesn't really mean much.
I love my 95.

Now it is time to get addicted to autox.

Just took it sideways about 20 minutes ago. Popped my spirited-driving cherry.

HELL YEAH! Zoom zoom 😉

congrats! a few weeks ago, i walked into the Mazda dealership i bought my Mazda3 and asked the guy if i can test drive the newer Miata Hardtop. It was so much fun. Rev it, come in and out corners, I didn't mind the top down on the freeway. Fun .. just fun.

I dont' know if it's worth brand new asking price fun but used at the price you got. excellent!

Looks like we'll be finishing the stripe removal tomorrow night, weather and schedule permitting. Can't wait! I'll be sure to put up some pics.

I see you got tweeters on your door which means you have the popular equipment package with the Torsen LSD. Miatas are so tail happy with the LSD.
