Congratulations on the new job, OP.

And I need to add the obligatory oldsmoboat was being a d*ckhead with his post.

wait.. u quit asst mgr at 7-11 to work at Futureshop?!

<FACEPALM>

did you at least get a handle on your anxiety issues?

if so, why not return to 7-11?

I remember a year ago I told him that he should have kept his job at 7-11. I heard he was making 35k a year. Now, he's at the bottom of the heap again.

If you are 28 and have no attachment or not going to school, you should seriously moving to Fort McMurray or Calgary at the very least. Even janitors in Fort McMurray make 35$/hr.

Indeed. I walk 5km to and from work each day - why would you take a bus for such a short (1hr) walk?

I misspoke (typed). I went to google maps and it's closer to a 4.5 mile trip. So, I walk about a mile to the bus stop, then the bus takes me the rest of the way. And there's no bus fee (student bus pass). The trouble isn't getting there so much as getting back, since the bus schedule isn't very consistent. But in any case, I'll stop being a whining baby and just do the commute.

I sucked at 28 too. I had to make a choice between flight school, Delta Force or getting out of the Army and getting a job. I chose to get out.
Now my employer of 20+ years will probably pay me minimum wage come July first. I will get my full pay and penalties back when the budget is passed. But I never lived in my parents basement or even with them after I was 18 years and 2 months old.

Now Locut0s since you got one job, get off your fat, lazy ass and get a better one. Wash/rinse/repeat.

LOL wow so you've spent your entire life sucking the government tit, and you mock Locutos for finding a job?

Nik got banned for the same thing. I wonder....

Well you're the mods' favourite little pet, so yeah I'll probably catch a ban for that - apparently it's OK for you to troll, but not OK for anyone to respond in kind.

So instead of being dependent on your parents you're a burden on your state. Your posts in the other thread ("What do I do?") indicate that you still haven't gotten off your own fat, lazy ass to get a better one.

The fact that this statement is actually true boggles my mind.

Yeah I'm better at dealing with the anxiety issues. Though they are far from gone. For one thing I've lost 65 lbs and stopped drinking so I look and feel better. I don't want to return to 7-11 mostly because none of these jobs are permanent long-term jobs and while I'm doing a sales associate type job I might as well combine it with my actual interests (computers). In the long run I'm going back to school and I'm going to be getting a real career. In the short run, well shortish it's turning out to me more medium than short, if I'm going to be just a sales associate or an assistant manager in a sales job I'd rather sell computers and games than sell chips and coke.

Wait, you're expecting him to get banned after calling you a name that, to be blunt, fits like a glove. Then you say shit like pansyfag?

Wow!

I specifically mentioned I was looking for a better position in my OP. I've got an assistant managerial position at a local EB games lined up that may pan out. She said she may be hiring in a month or so. So yeah I'm looking at this as just a stepping stone job. In the longer run I'm going back to school once I start feeling more confident and have a few more bucks saved up. When that will be is hard to say. I may very well end up being one of those guys who starts their actual career in their late 40s and I'm fine with that, but I fully indeed in the longer run to have a real career in IT or some scientific field.

BTW since you gave me a ribbing about my age and job, and I suspected nothing less from our resident crotchety fogey, I guess you don't mind telling us your age, job and wage.

Well olds was talking about collecting some type of employment insurance to make up for lost wages because they cut his pay.

It likely does when you do it for "job security" (i.e. you don't have to worry about being fired for mediocre performance), when you don't indulge what government work is actually being done, and when you blame the economy on "private sector greed".

It doesn't matter why you work for the government, if you're doing a necessary job then you're not "sucking the government tit".

So? If he's doing a necessary job and the government is bankrupt how is that his fault?

Also, you're 28, live at home, and you're excited (and posting) about getting a job that most people get when they're 18 and fresh out of high school. You should expect to get some shit for that. I mean, it's great that you're finally getting your shit together, but I'm sure even you realize that you're about 10 years behind.

Edit - So, congrats and everything, but it's still the internet so I'm still gonna give you shit...:)

If you see my reply to olds above yes you will realize I fully expected to get some shit.

My philosophy on posting on the net has always been to be 100% open about my life and just take what comes. Sure I will get some shit but that's fine. The nice comments and support I get more than make up for that. I've posted about all kinds of emotional issues I've had over the years and the support I've gotten has been helpful and worth it.

A significant portion of government jobs are unnecessary. Everyone knows this.
