Got a job offer

ThePresence

Elite Member
I formally got offered the job as an art director in a media group/ad agency.
The money is very nice.
But I am terrified of the job.
I never had that much responsibility.
I never had so many people working under me.
I think I may be too afraid of it to take it.
I do have some time to consider it.
Help!

UPDATE: I spoke to some people who have dealt with this company.
Although nobody would come straight out and say "don't take it", it seems that they all have a bad taste left their mouths from the experience.
It seems, and this is just what I can deduce from the conversations, that they felt they weren't dealt with honestly.
Obviously I don't know any details yet, but this may make my decision alot easier.

unless you're rolling in job offers, take what you can get that sounds decent.

i can't find sh!t, but thats probably because my education and skills are sh!t too.

Well, I wasn't looking for a job.
I am pretty happy doing what I do now.
This just fell into my lap and I figured it can't hurt to check it out.

Our art director makes over six figures...he does maybe 10 hours of "work" a week. We are a media company/ad agency.

A large part of the job is delagation, and making sure everything is done on schedule.
The actual creative work that I would do is less than I do now.

just take it. u'll learn to cope with all the responsibilities. in time it will be nothing to you

seems like you're too comfortable in your current position. bad thing to have. i know...im too comfortable in my current job too. thats why im looking to get out

Hence, the 10 hours of "work."

Sounds like a no brainer/no lose situation.

It's not.
I like doing creative work. I enjoy it.
I don't know how good I'd be at delegating to others.
I don't know how good I'd be at hiring/firing people.
Also, this means returining to the pressurized deadline-based work enviroment which I left.

Just be sure to post all of your major decisions back to ATOT in the form of a poll. We can help you make the right decisions as long as you invite us over for beer and pizza. 😉

take it, stretch yourself, when moving jobs i always try to get into a stretch position. it helps your career grow and gets you more money and responsibility.

What do you mean, stretch?

stretch meaning challenge yourself. It will only lead to bigger and better things.

Take the opportunity.

Take it or you'll regret it the rest of your life. You'll never know what might have been if you don't take the chance. And the worst that can happen is you don't like it or don't do well and you quit or get fired. It's not like they are going to kill you if you don't succeed. Just do it. Stop fretting about it. DO IT MAN!

Have you ever worked for a media/ad agency? It's a freaking circle jerk. There's no pressure. If you are good at doing the gruntwork (i.e. real work), you shouldn't worry too much about deadlines.

As for delegation, it's not that hard to set up meetings in Outlook and forward a bunch of emails to your peons. You will still spend 90% of your 9-5 on ATOT.
