christ, half the people giving advice sound as if they've never been to a sizeable city in their lives. $40/hour will be fine in ANY city, especially if you're willing to forgo the huge apartment, HBO, etc.

DC has some amazing areas and some heinous areas. stay away from southeast DC and you're fine.

I'm a pipefitter. The job could have been in one of a dozen locations in the DC area. The Union Hall where I had to go sign up was right near Andrews AFB.
I wouldn't know the job, contractor, or location until I got there.

I couldn't get things together quick enough, so I turned it down. I'll get another call in the next few days.

The job is temporary, it may last 6 weeks, 6 months, or a year.

If I end up down there, I'm going to need some advice on how to get by without having to kill people. ;) One of the main problems with going into the cities to work is that without knowing where to go and what to look out for and where to stay, you end up getting your car stolen, you have to beat down idiots, and the cops end up showing up.

I'd be honored to kick the guts out of a couple skatepunks with you.
Thanks for the invite!!! :)
