Got a great deal on replacing most of my exhaust system

So two days ago,

I noticed my car (91 Dodge Shadow) was sounds substantially louder than usual, so I took a look under my car and sure enough the over-axel pipe that leads into the muffler was disconnected from the intermediate so nothing was being muffled.

Fast forward to yesterday, I took it into a local shop, and sure enough my intermediate, over-axel and muffler were rusted to beyond repair and the muffler had holes... good ol' Canadian winters + execessive salt = lots of rust.

So I ask the mechanic for a quote to replace the intermediate, over-axel and muffler, his quote, only $130 CAD for parts AND labour (tax-free with cash 😀). I was shocked... I had taken my car into Midas earlier for a quote (last time my muffler was replaced was at midas so it had the lifetime warranty or whatever, yes I know, it wasn't my choice, my mom wanted to take it and she paid the bill so I couldn't care less), anyways Midas' quote, $224 CAD for the exact same parts and work and that included a FREE muffler, would've been $100 more according to them without the warranty.

I'm just shocked, but this all goes to show that not all shops are out there to scam you, you just need to find the right ones.

Wow...I just paid $225 or so at Midas to replace the muffler on my Civic. Kinda spendy for a generic muffler, but whatever, it's REALLY quiet so i'm happy.

Aww, no melon shooter that sounds like a nest of angry wasps? What kind of Civic owner are you? 🙁

Yeah, generic mufflers are fairly cheap, but with Midas, they just destroy you on labour costs. Looking over the quote, they've got outrageous prices on the labour, I think it was like $60 to remove my intermediate pipe.. which takes all of 10-15 minutes.

The mechanic had my car ready in less than an hour, hah.
