WMP doesn't really play DVDs. I mean, it will, but ir requires the proper codec, which isn't avaialable from MS. You still have to purchase one in the form of PowerDVD or WinDVD, and then WMP can use the codec provided by your other software. Last time I tried it, though, DVD playback looked really bad in WMP compared to WinDVD.

This is true it does work in WMP but some of my movies will not play because media player says they are from a different region.. even though they
play fine in WinDVD

Which version? (this article was written in 4/02)
The article reports this applies to "All Versions" of Windows Media Player.

I don't know whether this particular reg mod will work with all versions, but Media Player has been able to play DVD's since WMP version 6.4 with some sort of hack.

Ok, played the VOB files via WMP 6.4 with NO hack and the screen was half green and the audio was real choppy...

WMP keeps track of all the movies you watch...
