Well I have an R4, so I can't be specific about the CycloDS, but it came with no instructions at all, really.

But I would assume the CycloDS uses Moonshell to play movies - all the other cards I'm aware of do. You need to convert your movie files to the moonshell format - I don't have the link on me, but a quick google search will suffice. I haven't done it in a while, but if I recall, I converted a couple episodes of Family Guy and The Wonder Years and they looked fine - converted in about 10 minutes maybe?

I don't use it to play mp3's, so I can't help you there.

interesting on the no instructions part. is it pretty easy and straight-forward to figure out? i guess i'll find out when mine comes.

Yes, the CycloDS uses Moonshell for music and movies.
Was that conversion 10 minutes for each episode or 10 minutes total?

It's been a while - I just remember it's quick (the conversion process, that is). I would say 10 minutes for a ~30 minute family guy episode is about right.

These things don't usually need instructions - from my experience with the R4, I would recommend not using whatever CD that comes in the package and go to the website and download the latest/greatest firmware.

Everything else is drag and drop - I hope you have a means of actually getting the data onto the SD card. Once you do, you just copy the firmware files right to the card, then create folders for music/movies/games, and just drop the files in there - the card's software will let you browse it from your DS and everything else you can figure out by just poking around.

yeah, my memory card came with a regular sized SD card adapter and SD card reader. I already had a SD card reader anyway.

ok, my cyclods came today. currently putting moonshell on it and the firmware update.

seems cool. pretty simple. loads pretty fast. i've tried a few ds romson it and they worked and loaded as quick as if the cart was in.

now my question is can i play roms from other stuff, like NES, SNES, etc?

ok, need help with how to make a moonshell playable file. i got 3 programs - dpgtools, batchdpg, and avisynth. tried to encode an avi file with batchdpg and it failed on the audio. dpgtools seems to have worked but it seems a bit complicated with all the crap that comes with it.

no idea what avisynth does...lol

This is a pretty good SNES emulator for the DS. I've only tried it with a few games, but it works great. There's no noticeable framerate or lag issues.

I've only had a chance to try DPGtools, but it seems to work OK. While watching video on the DS isn't the greatest quality, especially when converting an already compressed Xvid file, I was honestly surprised. It was definitely watchable.

BatchDPG is next on my list to try.

Avisynth is a video conversion program, but I think it needs a front end for ease of use. It's certainly the most complicated of the 3 you listed.

yeah, i was surprised at the quality. the video i encoded was that I Am Murloc video (some music video with WoW characters). the smallest video i could find on my pc. it was 55mb in avi format and was a little under 13 mb in dpg format. video was pretty clear. there was text with the video and that was hard to read though.
