Got a DS Lite today

Since my pc is kind of in shambles atm and I can't play anything and I am bored to death, I picked up a DS lite today. I got Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, New SMB, and Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

I've played a little of all 3 games and I like them all. The Professor Layton game is pretty cool because it involves a story and you have to solve puzzles.

I also picked up 2 Gamestop screen protectors, which seem kind of crappy imo, and a Nyko charger grip that adds more real estate for your hands to grip and also has a internal battery that allows up to more hours of run time. For $10 it sounded like a great deal.

I still want to pick up one of those Brain Age games too.

The gamestop I went to today had a much better selection of games than the other one I went to last week. I saw a few more games that looked interesting.

So more recommendations on games and accessories is welcome!

I've heard about those R4 and M3 things on the AT forums before but not quite sure what exactly you use them for. Further explanation would be appreciated.

Those R4 and M3 thingies are cartridges that allow you to play homebrew, music, use other applications, and yes, of course......

...

.......ROMS.

In that case, get Advance Wars - both Days of Ruin and Dual Strike, and play the crap out of them.

Also, if you're not against piracy, get an R4 card. It lets you play downloaded games. Or, homebrew stuff if you want to stay on the legal side of things. They go for around $30 - much better investment than a single $30 DS game.

Yea, I just recently received a DS as well. I picked up a CycloDS Evolution just today! It should be here this week. I also picked up a 4GD microSD card!

If you like extras, (ie. Rumble Pack, GBA Expansion Pack, etc.) get the M3 DS Real. If you just want DS Backups and Homebrew, get the R4.

Slot 1 can't play GBA ROMs - and you need a Slot 2 in order to use the Opera browser.

There are some nice homebrew games. Quake was a little buggy and I didnt get around to try Duke 3d yet or Quake 2(anyone tried Duke 3d ds?). So start looking for your old Quake cd's if you get a flash card.

You don't have to pirate to take advantage of a flash card. I have a CycloDS Evolution plus the EZ-Flash 3in1. I don't pirate, I just copy all of my cartridges onto the flash card. I love not having to carry any games or swap cartridges - it's just like all the games are built into my DS.

Note that this won't support GBA ROMs. You might not care about that, but if you do then the EZ-Flash 3in1 makes a great companion to the CycloDS.

Do you need a CycloDS (or similar product) to use the EZ-Flash 3in1? I'm starting to look into this stuff for the DSes in my household. Right now I'm mainly looking for GBA support, but will want DS features as well.

I'm new to all this and I have a huge DS collection. The idea of having all my carts on a mSD card is very interesting. How do you get the cart ROM onto the mSD card?

Yes, you also need a slot 1 card with the EZ-Flash 3in1 (which goes in slot 2). It has no brains, it just provides 3 features - 32M flash, 16M RAM and rumble. You store the GBA ROMs on your slot 1 card and then use a little manager utility to copy the one you want to play over to the 3in1.

I use a small utility that copies the DS ROM into the EZ-Flash 3in1 and then back to the CycloDS (since you can't have the CycloDS and the DS game inserted at the same time). There's a different utility that's supposed to do this over wireless to a PC, but I've never used it.

You should get the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and Apollo Justice, they are one of my favorite DS games and will keep you busy for a LONG time.

It might be possible to run everything out of a slot 2 solution, but I'm not really sure. The slot 2 flash cards seem to be somewhat "legacy" these days. Ideally I would pair a slot 1 card (e.g. CycloDS) with the EZ 3in1. But if you are a heavy GBA user it might be worth getting a full-blown slot 2 flash card. I only have experience with the CycloDS + EZ 3in1 combo so that's what I can intelligently talk about.

So I assume that it comes with directions on how to use it, right?
Eveyrthing I need to listen to music and watch movies on my DS is already on the CycloDS? Is there anything extra that you guys find useful or I will need to put on the memory card?

Well I have an R4, so I can't be specific about the CycloDS, but it came with no instructions at all, really.

But I would assume the CycloDS uses Moonshell to play movies - all the other cards I'm aware of do. You need to convert your movie files to the moonshell format - I don't have the link on me, but a quick google search will suffice. I haven't done it in a while, but if I recall, I converted a couple episodes of Family Guy and The Wonder Years and they looked fine - converted in about 10 minutes maybe?

I don't use it to play mp3's, so I can't help you there.
