Any have any tips of a known card that will work in a Vostro 200 Slim Desktop machine? This machine needs a low profile card that can handle 3 monitors. And I have having a real tough time finding one as I was told any with HDMI ports will not run 3 monitors. Only two. Ones with a Display port only and DVI/VGa too will. But those are almost impossible to find.

Please let me know what you guys think I can do with this machine.

Thank you!

Yep, it isn't for gaming, but only for more desktop workspace at work for a director. I am having a serious time trying to find one for her. :( Or something that will work without telling her you need another machine.

First thing I thought of was a workstation card, and this was the first thing I found in 10min...probably not quite what your looking for, but I know there are other cards that exist. Ive heard of low profile 5xxx series cards with disply port that would run 3 monitors, dont have time to look now.

With an Active Display Port adapter I should be able to run 3 monitors. But now here is the kicker.....350w requirement and that machine only has a 200watt and there isn't a way to upgrade it. So she may be out of luck?

Another good one.....but that Ps requirements got me wondering!

Buy it. The 400w PSU requirement on the 5570 is almost as big a joke as the 500w ratings of some $19 PSUs.

A 5570 at full bore on a Vostro 200, which likely has a very low end Core 2 Duo, couldn't possibly draw more than 150w. And you aren't even using 3D. At idle, where it will be practically 100% of the time, the card itself needs about 10w. You're ok.

With an i7-920/6GB RAM/5570 etc under 100% load system draw from the wall maxed at 175W. Given say 82% efficient PSU thats 144W its pulling from a PSU. Your system will surely draw less than that. The card has a nice quiet fan that keeps the card nice and cool too.

Unlike the one you listed this also includes the low profile bracket (splits outputs into 2 lowpro slots) and is currently on sale. Its about 3 times faster as well, so it could later be more usefull.

I'm sure it has integrated graphics so you could probably use the output from the integrated graphics in conjunction with a discrete video card.

max TDP of a 5570 is 43 watts

that gigabyte carp never seems to mention EYEFINITY so I wouldnt bet on it doing triple display. from running quickly thorugh their sites 6 series section nothing they offer below a 6770 does eyefinity

Or worst case, if the integrated graphics don't work with a discreet card, what about 2 discreet cards?

I don't think that any of those cards will run eyefinity, you're probably going to need 2 cards. Does that mobo even have 2 pci-E slots?

Seems to me that the HD5570 does indeed have Eyefinity and can run three displays - says so right on the AMD page: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desk...hd-5000/hd-5570/Pages/hd-5570-overview.aspx#2.

Assuming that's not sufficient proof, aren't there more triple-monitor experts here who can weigh in? Pretty straightforward question that a lot of people have probably figured out. Using two discrete cards sounds so 2008 to me.

There are always the overpriced signal-splitting options to consider as well. I'm speaking of TripleHead2Go, of course. It can supposedly run 3 monitors at up to 1680x1050 off of a DVI port. I'm not sure if that's single-link or dual-link DVI, though...

Durp?! Did you guys not read my posts? I may be retarded but Im not stupid.

The 5570 low profile card I suggested INCLUDES the low profile brackets required for 3 displays. Its got a flex cable for a reason, you simply use the two low-pro brackets one next to the other for all the outputs. Heck it should be obvious just by the pictures.

The reason the card asks for a "400W" PSU is because of all those 19$ 500W units that can only output half their rated power. Go look at the tests here on Anandtech, this card will work in your system.

That is assuming there is space for another bracket.

Should have 3-4 slots back there, with onboard audio ethernet etc there's probably no expansion cards yet. Even if there was one there should still be room...worst case he has only one slot, you can just dangle the conector outside the case. If indeed he did have only a single low-pro slot and didnt want to ghetto rig it the only GPU solution is a workstation card like what I posted first.

Does the Vostro 200 run Windows 7 or XP?

There're conflicting views online whether an HD 5450 or 6450 card (with DisplayPort) requires Windows 7 to power three displays. Some say that Eyefinity only runs under Windows 7; others think that the card can drive three monitors under XP, without using Eyefinity.

Does anyone here use an HD 5450 or 6450 to run three monitors under XP?
