Can i take out the majority of component sans the power supply and take everything else out of my Dell Xbr p3 p33 and move it to a new case? cause the friggin thing only came with 2 5.25 bays, which made my live drive useless if i have two cd-roms. anyone actually do this successfully?? looking to move it to full tower.

If it was going to work....it would work with a Dell. Dell (historically) has been very good about conforming to form factors so what is in your case should be a standard ATX motherboard. The only way that it wouldn't work is if it is one of the Dell mini-towers which I believe do not conform to standards. The other thing to keep in mind is wether or not your processor will have sufficient cooling in the new case. Dell, Gateway and many other OEM's leave fans off of the heatsinks and instead use ducts or other fans to cool the heatsink. But as long as it's cooled ok I don't see any problems moving it to a different case....may I suggest the Antec SX1030.

cool...i think i have the duct technique, but the one f the reasons to move to a better case would be for cooling as well as the bays. what would i do if i do have the duct, just get like an orb or a generic fan or what?

hmm nm, read about the soho server case, my question i guess now is, if I fill the four slots for 80mm fans, will hat be suffice to replace the duct cooling technique for the cpu in the dell case?

No if there is no fan on the heatsink you still need to do something about that. You realistically could just put a fan on there yourself or you could just replace the entire heatsink with one that includes a fan.

Check your power supply from Dell. They have been known to have their own connectors. But other than that, I believe they are pretty standard. This will of course void your warranty.

any recommendation for hsf? remember that this is probobly generic dell board and im mostly worried about clearance space. guess trial and error is inevitable.

edit: while looking around, i hope i can use this golden orb for p3

dont know if itll work with my mobo tho

The GOrb would work but I think that they are over hyped. I didn't find mine to be that efficient or quiet. I would suggest a good Alpha with a couple 16.1 dBA 60mm Adda fans on it....efficient and quiet. You can get the Alpha/Adda combo at Pham..
