so my mom surprised me with a 15 gb dell dj for hanukkah tonight...
time to set it up and get all ready....
EDIT: Review!
Ok and here we go...
The unit
First off its relatively the same size as the iPod except it feels slightly heavier.
I dont mind the little scroll wheel that much. Very easy to use.
I dont like the fact that it doenst make use of a cradle nor can they release one due to the fact that all the connections are on the top of it. (well they could but it would be extremely awkward looking.)
It has four little (and i mean little) rubber feet on the back of it so when on your desk it doesnt slide around (could be a problem when in your pocket though.)
The standard headphones dont impress me all that much but what can you expect from generic headphones?
The unit has 7-EQ presets (I think) and 4 band custom EQ that can be programmed.
The OS layout on the device is very straight forward and easy to navigate.
Oh and you CAN charge the unit vida USB. (as long as its at least 25% charged already)
The Software Solution
It comes bundled with Music Match which I absolutly hate.
Tried doing xfers of songs via WMP9, which I also hate.
searched the web for iphod like programs. Only to find nothing.
Tested the trial version of Red Chair Software's Dudebox. (www.redchairsoftware.com/dudebox/)
Aweome piece of software. Allows for explorer integration to xfer files to and from the Dell DJ.
Gave in and purchased the full version with money I dont have.
Just xferred a whole album 13 songs - 192kbps - 95MB in approx. 2 min. using the standard USB 1.1 (my pc doesnt have USB 2.0 blah)
According to the dell dj forums a new firmware is to be release shortly addressing some issues that have arisen. (Firmware issues)
Thats all for now.
