Why should I read your post again, we have a policy and this is the first time we have had to enforce it and I felt bad, but if we didn't follow through it the first time later down the road if we catch someone again, they could say well you didnt fire so and so, why can't I have a second chance.

why did you even take this to your higher-up/ management? You could have resolved it quietly yourself - just let him know what he is doing is not OK, and re-issue his login/ password.

And if management found out what he'd done (i.e. ignoring the login policy and aiding someone else to that effect) then he'd likely be fired too.

Don't you guys have passwords for each login?

Yes, he asked the other person for there login credentials.

and they gave it to him???? fire em both if you're going to fire the one

if a friend asked for your login details, as if you wouldn't give them. what are you going to do, be an uptight freak?

No I would not. That user ID and password are mine and mine alone; they are inextricably tied to my employment at said company and if you can jeopardise your employment by giving them to someone else, then you'd be a complete moron to do it.

rubbish. every employee has some degree of leeway to exercise discretion in punishment or discipline, you can be reasonable, or you can be an asshole. your choice.

...or you can do your job, toe the line, and not risk being fired.

I will never be that petty. I'd rather lose a job than conform to that degree of mind-numbling pettiness and anal retentiveness.

all our calls get recorderd and when someone is using someone elses login it causes major problems. Example our QA team goes to monitor Joe Smo, but they begin listening to the call and here Sue Smo speaking under Joe Smo's Agent ID. Now they have to go through all of Joes calls to find Sue. Basically for 2 months the guy's calls were getting tagged under someones elses agent id, and it caused us headaches because the software is new to us and we thought lines were getting crossed etc.

These are just a few examples of what some would consider rules that are probably broken every day. Mindless conformity not to break them? Possibly. But using someone else's identity in a work environment which may or may not be tied to legal/pay implications seems pretty clear cut to me.

If you're willing to lose a job for violating a clear and substantial rule, I wonder what kind of job you have and if you really do need the income.

Yep. What if they logged in as someone who had access to HR or confidential files?

I haven't gotte nanyone fired from where I work, I have gotten a car salesman fired from 2 places. lol. I went to a Dodge dealer a few years ago and was going to get a truck. I said, I just want a base model v6. He gets the truck, we drive it and chit chat. For some reason he decided to mention the storage behind the seat was a good place to hide your stash. WTF? I look nothing like a druggie/hippie.

We get back to the dealership and I ignore the earlier remark. I liked the truck and it seemed to have a lot of power for a v6. So he gets the paperwork and I notice the thing is like $4k higher than what the sticker showed. The fvcker had grabbed a invoice from a V6 and swapped it and had me drive a v8 model, then switched it back and then was writing me up for the v8. I talked to his manager and the guy was fired on the spot. lol. I told the manager that I was disapointed and was not going to buy from them. 3 days later I went to a Toyota dealership to look at a Pre-Runner and guess who i see, the dumb-ass salesman. He say me and yelled something at me, then his manager there came out and asked what was going on and I told him of my prior experience with him. The manager took him into his office and I spoke with another salesman. When I left the dipsh1t from the Dodge place was walking out with a box of crap. :D

Wow...I just don't know what to say. Everywhere I've worked, people have gotten away with a LOT and yet it took a LONG time for them to finally get fired.
