He then told me that he will connect me with an engineer and fix my comp... I asked him if he was legit and he said he is and can check my id etc... He then tells my dad that my pc will crash within hours if we dont fix the problem... I hang the phone cuz he doesnt sound geniune..

P.S. eventviewer > custom view then click on administrative events

P.S. i am kinda scared that my pc will die soon :'(

Assume anyone calling you unsolicited for tech support is trying to scam you. That's a fairly well known one.

Right, just in case you aren't a spammer: he's not genuine, don't do what he says, never talk to anyone like him again.

Civic duty performed. Connection dropped.

lol...that view will have errors even on a normal system.

What are the actual errors? That will be the indicator of an issue.

OH NOES MY PRINT SPOOLER ERRORED!

Totally legit. David Wolf actually called me last week and I had the same problem. He was able to login to my machine and now it works great. Definitely legit, definitely do let him help you with whatever he says!

Actually, if you have the time, hold the caller on the line as long as possible. But don't do anything on your computer.

Got that call 2 weeks ago. From the Microsoft California dept. of Technology. My computer is infected and will cease operating within hours. The good news is that it could be fixed by him remotely.

I told him the better news is: I only use Linux.

He hung up!🙂

My mother got that call, and was on her computer trying to comply with the "tech". I guess things weren't going well for him, and he asked her what her system was. She said she didn't know. Her son(me) set it up for her. He hung up :^D

Scammer is scammer. Anybody who calls you on the phone who is not a friend or relative is either a scammer or bill collector 🙂

(or even worse, its the office)

he said to go ahead and check his id? when he said that, did he put it up to the phone for you to check? and when you did check, did it look like your phone?

Lol thx guys. He did scare me though D:. Here is the picture of the errors

After i asked him that then he tells me he will connect me with an engineer and then i checked my caller id and saw unknown name with 7 digit #, so i hanged up lol...Then i get another call from different # but i didnt pick up.

you might not have heard of this, but Nigerian people are trying to scam us! they say they are a prince and need to get money to the US and will give you like $1000000 for your assistance!

I find it amazing that anyone would think MS would have the resources or desire to monitor every single yokels Windows computer then be proactive enough to call them and walk them through "solving" the problem.

Back when I did Dell tech support and you told someone it was a known issue the number one question was always "Why didn't you call me to fix it"

well that just proves that microsoft listened to the customer base and is now providing just that service!

hell, you guys complain about them not doing, then you complain when they do. they just can't win...

ive been waiting for those calls. see how far they get before they realize i run linux distros and windows never sees the outside of vbox.

my parents got the call and i have them all on linux except for their ipad.
