Got a call from a Management Recruitment firm

I've been looking through some job adds lately more for curiosity than anything, today I got a call from a guy at a "management recruitment" office saying he has a client that my "skills" may be suited for. He left a message asking me to call him back.

I've never heard of this happening out of the blue before, he didn't mention who the client was or for what kind of work. Sound sketchy or is this a normal thing?

UPDATE
- Called the guy and he said he was hired on retainer to find a new art director for a client of his
- He said he found me through a 'massive' network, -not- monster, but something they developed with other firms. He also then mentioned he wasn't sure who actually recommended me / how they found me
- He asked me how much I'd want to be paid and immediately said without hesitation they're offering 10/12k more than what I was asking
- He said they are hiring immediately and asked I come in for a pre-interview with a copy of my resume so he could tweak it and then show to them if he saw fit
- The place is majorly out of the way for me, and his website is very sketchy http://www.platinumedge.ca/

Should I bother going? I know I'm not going to quit my job on the spot, nor am I seriously looking, this seems insane!

I'm also on Monster, I guess he found me there.

Happens all the time. Recruiters use Monster to find people for their clients. The problem is that most of the time they do a horrible time with the matching you up with a job you want.

Yup, and it is for a variety of reasons. In many cases the employer does not give them good information. In others they are lousy recruiters just throwing candidates at them.

So if the guy does not have your resume and does not know where he heard of you, how could be possibly know anything at all about you?

Exactly. I'm assuming he did find me on monster, which has my details as a designer, he got that much right. That, or one of the other jobs I applied for somewhere, at some point along the road.

Because anyone who can submit a resume to a job website can sell insurance.
