Got a Brand New Silver Ford Crown Victoria today

You oughta see them when you're driving a 77 Grand Marquis with a few small rust spots and real light front damage...

It is hilarious how people start braking and move out of your way on the highway.

Yeah well they figure you are either a cop or a 95 year old grandfather, since they are the only people who drive Crown Vics/Grand Marquis. Either way you don't want them behind you.

Funny thing was. I got flashed by a Ford Expedition that was behind me. It turned out that it was a police car/SUV. Fortunately, I was going 70 in a 65 in the back of a large group and he wanted to pass me to get someone else.

I never saw or thought the Expedition would be a police vehicle.

Edit: I actually saw 2 Expeditions that pulled people over on my trip. One in CT and one in MA.

Plenty of cops around here use SUV's - Durango's, Expeditions, Tahoes, no Suburbans though. (Saw one Expedition though)

I definitely wouldn't have let him pass... If he wanted to pull me over because of it, I would have said "I didn't know what you meant when you flashed your lights..." Helping cops give tickets is bad karma.

This one was completely unmarked. It was a beat up old green Expedition with lights only in the grill. I would think the police department would keep them in better condition but I guess it is good camouflage.

Only Sergeants drive Expeditions at my department. Regular patrol uses CVs or Chevy Impalas.

Hey! I drive one and I'm neither (mine is natural gas, so I get to use the car pool lane by myself and further confuse people)

Sweet! Do you get amazing mileage using CNG? How much does it cost per cubic foot (or whatever unit you use)?

Also, the cops at the department I work at use Crown Vics mostly, but the K-9 units use 2004 Durangos.

Mileage is the same as a standard CV 20-22 mpg. The natural gas is sold in in gasolene gallon equilvalents so you can compare cost apples to apples. I'm paying about $1.45 a gallon now (it generally runs 2/3 the cost of regular). The downside is without extended tanks I only hold the equivalent to 9.3 gallons, but I refuel less than a block from work.

Zero emissions, right? There's a station with a CNG pump about 1/2 mile from my house. It looks neat!

How'd you decide to go CNG over gasoline? And how was the purchasing process...do you get amazing tax incentives?

Me too. Mine is a 1987 sedan. Looks like a detective car, all dark blue with almost no chrome.

5L with low restriction duals for added volume.

PS: I am 38 years old.

I don't think it's my right, I just don't see why it's against the law. I understand the risk of getting a ticket, and I choose to take that risk. I just don't think it's right that I should get in trouble for driving safely at a high speed.

I love those cars! Giant sedans are awesome. I wish I my sable was even bigger. I've love a crown vic + police package.

Woo, they would move even faster if you had a chase bumper on the front of your car!

the day you can convince me that 100% of the people on the road are responsible enough to "drive safely at a high speed" is the day I start lobbying to eliminate the speed limit.

It only takes one moron to lose control at 160MPH and kill a dozen people.

One moron kills a dozen people at 60mph as it is. And I'm not talking about driving THAT fast, there's no way you can be in traffic going that fast and think it's safe. I think that 100-120mph on open highways shouldn't be a huge problem though. Example, Highway 287 north out of Dallas into Oklahoma. A whole lot of nothin'. Speed limit is 70mph on a nice long straight flat road. Gotten my share of tickets out there. I think in cities though, speed limits should be in the 60mph-80mph range depending on congestion.

Notice I didn't say in my above post that everyone should be able to drive fast. Just me. I know I can handle it. And I know I deserve to go fast. I'm an important guy.

How was I helping the cops?

He flashed his lights and siren on me. I pulled off and he went through and did it to a bunch of the guys in front. We weren't flying or anything just going around 70 in a 65. Then a few cars up he pulled one guy out of the line. It was a 626 wagon which I remember that passed me earlier.

Better him than me.
