Long story, but i ended up with about 1" of a 3" Nail in my heel about 4 weeks ago.... Got a tetnis shot and took antibiotics, but the spot seems to not want to fully heal....

Anyone know how long injuries like this usually take?

There is a scab over the spot, and its still fairly tender to the touch. Im callin the doc in the morning, but wanted to see how long it took others with simular injuries to heal.

Well, typically puncture wounds take a long time to heal and are quite painful after the fact. I can't say much more than that, other than expect it to take a long time to heal up and quit hurting. That's been my personal experience with similar wounds.

Puncture wounds probably takes longer than slash wounds since there is a lot of damage in volume. It also doesn't help that the injury is on your foot, which usually takes longer.

Please say you've seen the doctor before this "I'm callin the doc in the morning".

Similiar thing happened to me earlier this year. It took quite a while to fully heal. I think the constant movement of the skin in foot hinders the mending process. As long as it isn't infected I'd say give it more time.

I had almost the same thing happen. You know those little black DC transformers that plug into the wall to power tons of electronic devices? I had one with prongs up and managed to jump on it...(dont ask how) so I had 2 3/4" deep holes in my foot. Took forever to heal...hurt like hell =/ hang in there

Yeah, I'm going to ask how you did it, this has to be a good story.

hahaha i agree with wag

Try to wear opened toed if you can, i imagine that might help, when i got my ingrown toenail removed they mentioned something about how going opened toed sandals for awhile helps the healing process.

Don't know about nail in heel, but it should depend on how healthy your body is, and it would take longer if you get infection.

I got a 3 inch nail through my middle finger and It took bout 2 weeks before there weren't any pain when I move the joint.
I was holding 2 2x4 together with the left hand while shot the nail through both 2x4s with a propane nail gun. The wood was too soft therefore the nail protruded by about an inch on the other side or the 2x4.

I once got a rusty nail in my my foot when I was scavenge hunting around a construction site. I don't think my tetanus shot was up to date, but I cleansed the wound with iodine, and it healed in a week or so.

I've had thorns and nails in my heel...puncture wounds in the heel take a LONG time to get better, and they hurt for a while. Try to keep your weight off it as much as possible (walk on the front of your foot), and eat healthy. That's about all you can do.
