got 4 flight tickets back in january, but no seats available?!?

stupid airlines. i got 4 flight tickets back in january using british airways points, and the flight is on one of their partners (american airlines). i go to get the tickets today (have to wait 24 hours ahead) and SORRY no tickets available son. well there are tickets on the first leg, but not on the second.

so i guess i will wait until tomorrow and see if theres any options, or if my vacation will involve staying home and being bored 🙁

stupid point scam. hey use us we will give you points to buy tickets. but we have blackout dates or you fly standby.

This is why i dont bother with frequent flier miles. They're practically useless. When i want to fly some where i pick the date not them. When i go to the airport on that day i damn well better be on that plane as well. None of this sorry youve been bumped crap. With all the other nonsense they put us through with air travel this is the very least they could do.

Why don't you call BA and explain to them what happened? I am sure they can get you a seat/flight. What route/flights are you taking? PM me if you'd like.

does not compute

I've cashed in over a million miles the last 4 years for trips on Delta, American, Southwest, United and Air France and have never had an issue. Like said above call British Airways and see what they can do.

2 roundtrip tickets from Kansas City to Argentina on American
3 roundtrip tickets on Delta from Kansas City to Paris and return from Munich
1 1st class on Air France from LA to Barcelona
1 1st class one way on American from LA to Honolulu
1 1st class one way on United from Honolul to LA
2 roundtrip tickets on united from Kansas City to Kona, Hawaii
1 way from LA to London on American
1 Way from Paris to LA on United
1 Roundtrip ticket from LA to Brussels on American
2 roundtrip tickets from KC to LA on Southwest

Gee, I wonder why they treat people who are giving them money differently than people who are using points they got for free for doing something they were already going to do.... Not that I'm condoning their behavior. If you earned the miles and got your tickets, you shouldn't be bumped for someone else. That's just bad business. But I can see why they'd do it.

If you have enough points for a free ticket it's assumed you've already given them a ton of money. So in essence they're pissing off their best customers.

Not really. There are credit cards that give out miles. There are banks which use miles as rewards for opening an account. Obviously the airline is getting something out of that, but not necessarily repeat business from customers who just want to fly free.

Thats what I would think too but my experiences with reward flights haven't been that great:
Getting stuck with the flight with the 4hr layover in Salt Lake because Delta did not offer any reward seats on the direct flight*
Going from Ft Lauderdale to Tampa to Nashville to Detroit because there were no reward seats available on the direct flight even (Southwest)*

*Both booked over 4 months in advance

Thankfully most of my rewards points are with Chase so I can usually pick any flight I want
