Got 3 tickets sent to me from the toll booth authorities...how lame !!

My sister brought me these 3 certified letter sent to my parents house.
Apparently, it was sent a month ago but I didn't sign for them, someone else did.

So I openned it up and it was 3 tickets(tickets exactly like a speeding ticket for example).
It was for $50 each and it came attached it a picture of my tag.
It from an exit ramp booth that I use practically everyday.

First, I didn't think was an even legal.
Seriously, these exit ramp booth has no attendant and alot(I emphasize alot) of times, you throw a coin in there and it doesn't even registered.
How can they give me a ticket based on a machine that is no where 100% accurate ???

Based on this FACT(that the system is not 100% accurate), I went down to traffic court to fight it.
She had all the papers ready for me and I see Aug 20. Arghhh.....I have a week long class during that time period that I cannot miss.
I asked for a different date and she tells me I have to write a letter to the judge asking for a different date.
Took a long thought and I basically took the hit. Paid the $150 and got out of there.

To be honest, there have been a couple of times where I didn't have change and just threw whatever I had and took off.
But the authorities do let you off with warnings before because they know those machines aren't accurate.
And also, there have been many times, I threw more than what was needed and it still didn't turn green for me.

Do you think I was WRONG or RIGHT in this situation and do you think I could have won in court ??
I think I easily could have. All I had to do was before the court date, I just have to film 1 time where I threw money in and the machine didn't registered.

karma. stop whining and start carrying proper change.

edit:

did you throw the change into it or just in the general direction? If it didn't turn green did you think to document / report it, or even jot down the date on a scrap of paper?

Please re-read what I posted.

"But the authorities do let you off with warnings before because they know those machines aren't accurate."

They have sent off warning notes to me before.
3 $50 tickets is quite steep for incurate machines.

Have you ever thought that you got the tickets, perhaps, because you had already received warnings? Apparently the warnings aren't working. If the machines really aren't accurate, film it, then contest the next time you pay the proper amount of money.

a little effort on your part and you might have saved $150.

I can understand doing nothing before the first warning, but doing nothing after getting several warnings?

Oh, its definately a lesson learned.
I plunged down the $150 an said "lesson learned"

Still $150 for incurate machines is still LAME.

For anyone who thinks I don't have a chance in court.
All you have to is prove the discrepancies and you have a good chance to win.
Its like proving to the court your speedometer is inaccrate and you have a good chance to win.

Let to clarify......these warnings are over a 6-8 yrs period that I've been using the toll road.
Its not like they sent me these warnings and said" next time so and so, you will be fine".
All of the sudden, they start giving out tickets through the mail ???

Yea those machines are whack, I watched it once b/c it didn't hit green the first time. When you throw in the general direction sometimes it gets caught in pouch around it and doesnt fall into the hole. Thats y its not turning green. When i looked into that there was mad change around the hole. So good luck nxt time, use EZ pass!

Here's a tip I've found when using these hoppers in NJ.
If you pull up close to the basket.
Stop moving completely.
Reach your arm all the way out the window so your hand is right above the hole.
Drop the change STRAIGHT into the hole.

It works EVERY FREAKIN' TIME. It's you people doing the freaking "E-Town Toss" that always get screwed. You roll the window down halfway and chuck the coins out while you're going 5 MPH and you are surprised when the thing doesn't register....

Its like proving to the court your speedometer is inaccrate and you have a good chance to win.

You won't win and all you will do is get yourself a court order to fix your faulty equipment. You are responsible for following and knowing the law. If your speedometer is not operating correctly you are responsbile for fixing it. If you use the arguement that your speedometer doesn't work all that will occur is you will get a second fine/ticket.

The same rules apply to toll booths, if the light doesn't turn green you shouldn't keep going till it does or you have violated the toll road provisions.
