Got 1st HDTV, and have HDMI question

Hopeless

Finally got our first HDTV, went with the Mitsu 60638 that UE had on sale this weekend.

Went to monoprice to look into getting a couple HDMI cables, 1 for xbox360 & 1 for HD cable box that I'll be swapping my SD box to get. I'm figuring that the High speed ones are what I'd want. They have 28 AWG with ferrite cores, 24 AWG with net jacket (no idea what that is) and 24 AWG flat ones. What if any practical difference are there between them?

Not really. The gauge is just the thickness of the wire. Since it's just transporting data, it doesn't mean much. Just get whatever is cheaper.

For short runs, it doesn't matter unless you're using a physical pushbutton HDMI switch (and then only for 1080p/60).

For long runs, then you need to consider this stuff.

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking at 4ft cables as both are now sitting on the shelf right below the tv on a stand I picked up with the tv.

Wasn't really sure about the ferrite core vs net jacket.

The only factor that the gauge of the wire has in anything at all is how well it will hold up to abuse. For shorter runs, you definitely want thinner wire because the thinner wire can bend easier. For longer runs, you want thicker wire so that it can hold up to any abuse that it may be put through.

Other than durability, there's really no difference.

:EDIT: Also, don't be fooled by supposed high quality cables. As long as the cable is the latest HDMI standard and is capable of displaying 1080p, there will be no difference between a $40 cable and a $15 cable.

get 6 foot cables, 4 feet may seem like enough but it never is
