My dad has gotten 2 boats off craig's list (free ones). Combined into one working boat (with trailer!). Free stuff rules.

I love it when they leave their perfectly good cars in the street. Picked me up a Volvo last week and it runs great.

yeah, I couldnt believe it. Some dumbass left his perfectly good ferrari sitting by the curb for garbage. He forgot to leave his keys with it though, but I couldnt let that stop me from saving this poor car from being tossed.

not really like this: when i was little (10-12) i liked taking things apart. and since i didn't always have the nessecary skill to put it back together, i'd take old VCR's and such just to take them apart.

I have found monitors harddrives entertainment centers computer desks. The work bench in my garage is 4x8 and made out of 1 inch thick plywood with a lower shelf sitting on 4x6 studs. Saw it on the side of the road 2 years when we were moving in. Stopped and ask the guy if he was really throwing it away and he was.

This is the annual 'funboy-check out what I found in the dumpster' thread !! You know the holidays are fast approaching when this thread appears. The usual critics will post their humor and move on, but I find them refreshing to read. My buddy DD's about once a month and brings in a load of goods, including:

wireless routers
USB wireless adapters
office chairs (with a rip in them fixed by quality tape)
copies of Ubuntu/Red Hat etc.
lamps/small desks
$5 off stackable coupons <- used 7 myself to get a new UPS for $12!!

There's plenty to be found, with the only work being researching your 'target' and finding the best day/time to dive, so most people are unaware of the specific laws to a business' dumpster, but if its unlocked, no signs regarding it and on a public lot, all you have to lose is your inhibitions. Two thumbs up for Funboy.

Side note: We tossed two cart fulls of old PC junk last week, and an employee told us a pickup was pulled aside of the dumpster on Saturday night. Hope they enjoy all those P2-333s I tossed as well as the broken monitors, 1990's era QMS laserjet and other assorted junque. I'm waiting for someone to post about ther 'findings' on here.

Broken recliner with an electric short in it.
Computer monitor the smoked.
One computer tower with more viruses than the CDC. And the bios was a flakey sob.

Found a Dead V1.0 XBOX in the garbage, that had just a bum DVD drive.

Changed the drive, and added a no-solder modchip (bought in FS/FT for $30) and the damn thing still works to this day. :)

Geez. Stop. We threw out a pair of cabinets stuck in a store room, and home to mice for 20 years. I personally cleaned out the mouse crap from inside the cabinet. Next day, what do I see? The damn yellow mouse house on the porch of my neighbour. Ughh... No, we didn't warn them. Occupational hazard?

Theres probably a good reason why they threw that away. Maybe the previous owner's mother died in that chair and wasn't found for a couple of days....

Or worst. :Q

I got a brand new gas grill. It was so new the owners left the instruction manual in the sealed bag attached to the frame.

I found a gateway profile 4 in the grabage about 2 months ago. It had a bad hard drive(which was unfortunate becuase I needed another hd and it was a 250gig) Sold the entire thing on ebay for 200 some odd dollars. Not bad in my opinion.

I bet the person who needed a chair like that died in it. Nice that it can be recycled though.

Where I grew up there was a couple of days every year you could put out heavy rubbish and have it taken for free. All us kids would go out and find some bikes, then ride them around until we found better bikes, then ride those. One time my friend's parents found us miles out of town at 8pm and still riding out... they were so pissed off :D

Best thing I ever snagged from the curb was a huge solid oak table with four matching chairs... at the time I didn't own a house, so I gave it to a buddy of mine who had a place for it.

One of the things I miss moving down south, my son and I used to go dumpster diving every weekend. Lots of free cases, posters, occasional movies and games in the back on block busters and Movie Gallery. Then lots of other odds and ends. Mostly all stores. Radio Shack, that was a gold mine lots of times with cables, power adapters, toys, electronics, what have you. Burlington coat factory for 50gallon bags of packing foam, dollar tree for open box returns, miss all of that. Would come home with hundreds, sometimes several hundred dollars worth of stuff.

I live in the sticks now and really nothing around to go check out near by. One of these days the son and I will go drive to Jackson and see what we can come up with :D
