As someone else has said, most Dems are waiting till 2008(Clinton, Daschle, etc) to put in a serious run. The Dems at the current time have no strong canidate, unless things change over the next year, Bush will be re-elected.

He's only popular because he was president during the 9-11 event. Any President would have high approval ratings during this time. Hell Pat Buchanan would have high ratings if he were president right now.

The American people would have demanded the same strategy from any president and I seriously doubt Bush's administration added much new to our current war on terrorism.

I have to agree. I remember Clinton being a nobody amongst a group of Dem nobodies at the time. Almost by default he became the Democratic nominee. And then Bush Sr. lost to Clinton by way of the poorest run campaign in modern history. Coming off the highly successful Gulf War, Bush was considered a shoe-in for re-election yet he lost.

And don't discount the siphoning off of votes to Ross Perot. Most of them were independents and "Reagan Democrats" that have been crucial to Republican Presidential victories.
