Thoughts, opinions, concerns, stuff?

I was thinking of getting one when I get a motorcycle. I was going to get it as a type of "dash cam". The black edition was $330 recently. A new version is coming within the next couple months (It's due for a refresh).

There's a Digital and Video Cameras forum in which you will find many threads about GoPro. Please read those, then post there if you still have questions.

We have one for work. Got the GoPro Hero 3 black per the recommendation of a good friend who does video editing for a living. It's pretty sweet. We had a roof inspection job on a 40 story building and one of the guys put the GoPro on a helmet and then another person used the phone app to see what they were seeing. they also recorded video. looks really awesome. my brother has since borrowed it for making some kayaking and fishing video. (If he says it's ok, i'll link his fishing video)

The camera is incredibly small but all the video and pics my brother has taken look pretty good. Just make sure you use a good helmet cam or strap system. it really is very small, and it would be a lot of money wasted if you lost/dropped/broke it.

I thought about buying one after seeing them at CES last January, but they had a lot of firmware issues. The firmware posted on their site is now current though, so maybe its time to look again.

Got one last year for a stupid task at work. All $500 of camera + accessories paid for itself and it just sits on a shelf now.

It's small, has a great wide angle lens, and does 1080p -- some minor fisheye effect. I find it simple to configure and use. It gets pretty expensive with accessories though. I'm too cheap to get the LCD screen for $80, so it doesn't work that well as a "regular" camera.

GoPro 3 has built in Wi-Fi, if I remember right. But you have to pay for the receiver/remote if you ge the cheaper versions.

Yeah, but the receiver/remote is almost a gimmick (Worthless unless you're putting your gopro very far out of reach). You can still view the video over wifi with your phone on all versions, AFAIK.

You're getting a motorcycle? I call dibs on your stuff!
I'll take anything that you don't want. It will be a sure thing if he get a bike this time of the year in the North Wet Coast.

I got it 2 years ago and only use it once.

Get the LCD screen for another $50 or so if you have the Hero2 and you could use it like a regular camera?

Yeah it is the Hero2. However, I also have the Canon S95 that is pretty good as a small camera. And, the Canon 5D mkII when I need something better. As for now the Gopro is for water sport only...maybe untill I get an underwater case for the S95 or 5D.

I have a ContourROAM that's mounted on my skydiving helmet. Takes good video for such a small camera.

You will look like a douche with one on your street bike though. That seems par for the course with you though.

Have a GoPro 2 HD. It's ridiculously awesome. Used it on my motorcycle when I had it then my mountain bike when I was into that. Works extremely well. The new ones look awesome. Especially the black version.

I used to sell them so I'm a bit out of the loop as to the versions/offerings. There used to be only two. HD/SD so it was easy. They work great though and if you use it are definitely worth the money.

If you're looking for a budget action camera, not sure what kind of mounting options it offers:

Wow! That's a really cheap camera with decent performance. I might actually buy that really soon because that fits perfectly as a dash cam. (Something I've been wanting for a while now)

Although, I do worry about my car being broken into because I have a camera there. :( (Don't want to deal with taking it down and putting it back up every time I get in and out of the car)

I'm seriously considering buying it and this.

I've used GoPros for taking timelapses. Works pretty well for that.
