Gopeds?

Anyone have a Goped? What kind do you have, how much did you pay for it, where did you get it, how do you like it, and what would you recommend to others?

I'm looking for cheap short distance summertime transportation to work and back.

Get a bike, like a normal trek bike... get a workout on the way to work and u wont have to spend money on the gas or be shamed for being seen on a goped (it looks like a razor with a lawnmower on the back of it)

My old boss was a retailer of these. I used to drive around on the high performance one...you could get around 20-25 mph on that thing! Had a seashell shaped muffler on the back. Unless they redesigned them though, I wouldn't buy one. As my boss found out, their engines are prone to getting cracks, which leads to expensive repairs. They are a blast to ride though.

GoPed(brand) sucks, IMO.

The best and most reliable motorized scooters are made by BladeZ.

Get the dual-belt drive with Tanaka 40cc engine. The Tanaka 40cc is one of the best two-stroke engines on the market as far as reliability.

I'd get a bike, however I don't have a place to change at work and do not feel like sitting in pool of my own sweat at work each day.

Thanks for the advice on other scooters. Seems like a mixed bag.

Also how high powered of a goped/motor scooter can you get before you must possess a drivers liscence to use one, as I will probably hand it down to a younger sibling at some point.

Well...

In any state that doesen't have legislation specifically regarding motorized scooters, they are technically illegal to drive on the road. If your state has legislation, you will never have to have a license to drive a motorized scooter, however.. there are rules and regulations regarding engine size, etc.

Of course, nobody pays attention to them. Here in Oregon, the law is no larger than 35cc. Obviously, half the scooters made are over 35cc.

My girlfriends moms boyfriend has a 135cc US820 Kart engine powered scooter, he's never been hassled.. and he can keep up with highway traffic. 🙂

The Honda engine that I've put on my scooter is 50cc.

Just don't be obnoxious, and you will be fine.

200$ might be tough...

The thing that really makes them cost $$ is the performance upgrades. 100$ for a HP carb, 200$ for a tuned pipe...
