GOP working to declare porn a health crisis (AKA bothsidesthesame)

Has sex related crime increased or something statistically significant enough to warrant concern? Or is it a bunch of parents horrified that little Billy was caught whackin' it to some naked pic?

I suspect the latter. Age restriction has merit and should be enforced to a reasonable degree, but a "Crisis"? GTFO

If it is the former, I find the source untrustworthy. Make a clear cut data centric argument that can be analysed and confirmed by others, then I would trust it. If it turned out to be true, "Crisis" may be warranted.

What the problem? Nation's broadband infrastructure hasn't keep up with all the delivery innovations?

I think access to porn and the type of pornography has changed massively since I, and presumably little Billies parents, were young.

There certainly needs needs to be a public debate about children, their access to pornography, and what should be done (if anything) to regulate it.

What kind of public health crisis? Is it a lubrication problem or death grip situation? I am sending thoughts and prayers regardless.

I think the problem can be solved just fine with proper parenting.

This is a story out of Phoenix. You know, the largest gated community in the world. I'm pretty sure this is about Tommy and Suzy being exposed to ANYTHING not sanctioned by the GOP which by definition is porn.

More than a dozen states have moved to declare pornography a public health crisis

It's the first [line]!

I'm just counting down the days until the US is atheist as we continue to grow more and more against religion.

How else do you justify stupid shit like this? Must be because a man in the sky is watching all of us.

I don't doubt there are perhaps some... issues... with porn - particularly with addiction, but that is a very small minority. Honestly anything triggers dopamine in the brain can be an addiction. Sugar. Caffeine. Sex. Legal drugs. Illegal drugs. etc...

Growing up in the 80s & early 90s, I think any of the guys I knew that wanted to see porn had seen porn, be it VHS or print format.

I'm not arguing that porn was imposible to get in th 80s. But compare it to now.

As a 13 year old could you walk into a sex shop and buy a porn mag without being challenged? Watching a porn VHS on the family video is as easy as hitting pornhub on the laptop?

I'm not suggesting that porn should be banned but why is internet porn treated differently to porn in any other medium?

I guess the first question is... who really gives a shit? The moment you hit puberty is the moment you naturally grow attracted to sex related things.

Why try to abstain people from it instead of embracing it? It's only entirely 100% natural human biology to be attracted to it. The alternative is actual sex.

I guess there is something to be said for how hardcore porn is these days though admittedly....

So would you argue that children should have free acess to sex shops? Youd be comfortable with kids browsing the porn aisles?

Browsing and having access to some simple porn? Yeah sort of - I guess that's what I'm saying. Do you have an issue with giving a puberty stricken kid a copy of a simple Playboy?

But I was making a point that today's porn isn't the porn of 20 years ago.... So yeah, I sort of agree/disagree.

I think that I'd have an issue with 8 year olds buying porn mags and wondering around sex shops.

Theres always been freeky porn, its just a lot easier to get hold of now. And its that acess and lack of regulation which is my issue I guess.

The first step is recognizing that sex should not be a taboo subject. It is natural and nothing to be ashamed of. The second step is recognizing that kids are going to hear about sex whether you want them to or not and they are going to be curious. The typical parental reaction to these events is to freak out and either shame the kid or ignore the whole situation to avoid the uncomfortable conversation instead of seizing the opportunity to educate the child.

I'm fine with sex, and I'm fine with kids having sex when they are ready. Porn is the commercialisation of sex and its very much not a great way to learn about sex.
